Selma Blair Hasn’t Been Asked to Join New ‘Cruel Intentions’ TV Show — Yet: ‘Maybe There Will Be a Cameo’

As a longtime movie buff with memories of the nineties etched deeply into my cinematic soul, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia upon hearing that Selma Blair, who so charmingly played the innocent Cecile Caldwell in the 1999 classic “Cruel Intentions,” was not asked to make a cameo in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series.

Selma Blair expressed interest in appearing as a guest star in the forthcoming “Cruel Intentions” television show on Amazon Prime Video, however, she wasn’t offered the opportunity.

She admitted that she was expecting it yet still found it hard to accept since she hadn’t watched the trailer,” she said during Thursday’s Power of Women event, just hours after the TV series adaptation’s trailer was released. “Perhaps there will be a small role for me or something similar, but as of now, I haven’t been approached about it. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

1999 film adaptation of the timeless novel “Dangerous Liaisons” saw Blair as the naive character, Cecile Caldwell. This movie also featured Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Reese Witherspoon in lead roles. In the storyline, Cecile developed feelings for her cello mentor, portrayed by Sean Patrick Thomas as Ronald Clifford.

Thomas will appear in the upcoming Amazon series as Professor Hank Chadwick.

The upcoming series focuses on pupils at Manchester College, a university located near Washington D.C., where two merciless step-siblings are determined to maintain their dominance within the ruthless social order. As a severe hazing incident endangers the entire Panhellenic system at their school, they will resort to any measures necessary to protect their status and reputation, including wooing the daughter of the U.S. Vice President’s vice president, if required.

The performers are Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, John Harlan Kim, Khobe Clarke, and Brooke Lena Johnson.

In her own words, Blair’s suggestion to the fresh cast members is straightforward: “Savor each moment, arrive punctually, and memorize your lines!

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the upcoming show that’s being jointly produced by Sony Pictures TV, Amazon MGM Studios, and Original Film. Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher are taking on dual roles as co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Roger Kumble, who penned and directed the original film, will be an executive producer, along with Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty. Notably, Bruce Mellon, Andrea Iervolino, and Monika Bacardi are also listed as producers for this exciting production!

All eight episodes of “Cruel Intentions” debut on November 21. Watch the trailer below:
