Selling Sunset Recap: Chelsea Bites Back

As a seasoned observer of reality television and human nature, I find myself utterly captivated by the intricate web that is Selling Sunset. The show has always been a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but this season seems to have ratcheted up the drama to unprecedented heights.

In simpler terms, the images shared by Mary after her breast surgery, along with Chrishell’s casual comment about her own impending implant replacement, made me realize that despite their glamorous appearances on Selling Sunset, these women face hardships in their everyday lives, often uncovered by their polished performances. Scenes like Mary struggling to hug Chrishell while maintaining her full makeup and glamour, highlight that they will endure pain to preserve the image they desire. However, episodes six and seven suggest that Chelsea was not aware of her husband’s infidelity before Bre revealed it, causing turmoil within the show’s narrative.

The whispered check-ins through painted smiles and that whole scene at Mary’s that’s just Chrishell letting them know how much they can’t talk about imbue these episodes with a sense that we’re off track in a way no one quite knows how to handle, like finding yourself on a cobblestone street in high heels. Chelsea even claims she still hasn’t talked to her husband about this yet, something that only makes sense when you remember she’s in the middle of filming a TV show, and only a few days seem to have passed since Bre told her about it on camera. She seems to be truly flailing, trying to absorb her new reality while showing up for scenes she’s contractually obligated to be in and still trying as hard as possible to present her best version of herself.

Shifting her attention towards Bre is justifiable because it was Bre who placed Chelsea in a situation where she had to address this issue on camera. While it’s good that society has progressed enough to identify Jeff as the real antagonist, it doesn’t mean that empowered women can’t feel betrayed by each other. Feminism doesn’t equate to all women being friends regardless of circumstances. When Chelsea asks who her adversaries are, it’s a reasonable inquiry! However, during their confrontational call, Bre quickly becomes defensive and brings up past hurts, suggesting these wounds may not have healed as much as their public display of unity at Amanza’s broker’s open would suggest. She also acknowledges, “This doesn’t look good for me,” indicating she realizes it would make her seem unkind to have knowingly put Chelsea in this predicament. Yet, she continues to bring up past transgressions concerning Chelsea, which is concerning. After all, Chelsea’s offense was being judgmental about Bre’s relationship with a celebrity whose personal life is frequently reported, an issue for which she apologized and has since made amends. But Bre exposed Chelsea’s private-citizen husband’s infidelity in a news story. I understand why this hurt Bre, but it didn’t cause her the same level of devastation as Chelsea’s actions did. It didn’t destroy her family. It seems Bre doesn’t grasp the difference, and she appears to believe any wrongdoing towards her is equally significant as any perceived wrongdoing by others. That’s a bit unsettling.

Inviting Johnny Manziel onto her show appears strategically planned in this situation. To clarify, I’m not familiar with “Johnny Football,” but if his name suggests anything, it’s that he aligns with the ideals of American fascism. I have no interest in knowing how much money he spent on his tacky wardrobe or the heroic feats he accomplished with balls, which enabled him to earn money despite having a questionable personality. However, this is the most insight we get into Bre’s past, and it seems contrived to remind us that Bre has walked in Chelsea’s shoes (though they didn’t have children together, thankfully), as well as present a case for Bre being “high-class” even when she worked at Wet Republic. It’s an effort to reconcile the current version of Bre on the show with her past that she fiercely conceals. Moreover, it sends a clear message: everything Bre does is calculated, and everything she possesses, she desires.

This season, Emma has surprisingly taken a confrontational stance against Bre, marking a significant shift from her previous persona. She’s been remarkably cautious so far, avoiding any blunders or putting herself in danger. However, her peculiar actions, such as offering Chrishell her brother’s semen for conception with G Flip, have made her seem strangely ordinary. Yet, there’s an odd incident involving Emma – a human bite mark on her arm. While she claims it was from roughhousing with Chelsea, even Chrishell hints to the camera that there might be more to it. It seems Emma may not fully grasp the implications of her actions, given her lack of knowledge about Nicole’s revelation in Pioneertown. Yet, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Emma’s efforts to keep her love life private are as unrealistic as Chelsea’s attempts to shield her marital issues from public scrutiny.

Unlisted Observations

I find it highly entertaining when Alanna and Nicole interact. It’s reminiscent of the evil queen forced to converse with Snow White after her poison apple failed. For instance, Alanna urging Nicole to discuss the rumor of the affair with Emma directly, only for Nicole to express her lack of finesse in such delicate matters, is quite enjoyable.

• If Alanna doesn’t find some trees soon she might as well just go right back to Pioneertown!

It seems as though being a project manager might be appealing due to the potential freedom to step down from your duties whenever you feel like it, while still maintaining financial stability, doesn’t it?

1) To me, the Invisible House is already failing since I can’t even see it.

• Here’s a real wild theory: You may recall that when Emma first joined this show, she was accused of being the other woman in one of Christine Quinn’s previous relationships with an off-screen co-worker. This accusation went away pretty much only after Christine exited the show. But just a few months ago, Christine was seen with Mary, Jason, and Nicole (and Davina, RIP), suggesting her relationship with them continues. That allegations of Emma being a homewrecker would reappear simultaneously with Christine is a coincidence that’s not lost on me.

In the current context, the cast members have been expressing their feelings about the show online, with Chrishell, Chelsea, and Emma openly criticizing Nicole, the production company, and the show’s executive producer over the “Emma homewrecker” allegation. They’ve made strong statements; Chrishell has declared that she would never work on a show with Nicole again, even if it results in legal action. However, as they say, every pot needs stirring; Nicole’s actions might be strange and amusing when she does it. Lately, Chrishell has been discussing the issue on Extra, arguing that Emma hasn’t had an opportunity to defend herself and viewers don’t want to see these women conspiring against each other. Well, okay then.

Insights on Alanna: Married for two years now, she has an unconventional yet catchy way of saying “Bel Air.

Occasionally, it’s only when everything is quiet and dark that you can truly appreciate the brilliance of the stars. This thought is shared by Chrishell, who has taken on the role of a staff writer for Amazon’s The Rings of Power.

Deshaun Watson: Given that he plays football for a team based in Cleveland, it’s only natural for him to require a luxurious, multi-million dollar property in Los Angeles.

Jamin Davis: He plays football in Washington DC, and also needs a multi-million dollar home in Los Angeles. NFL players must really love Erewhon!
