Sebastian Stan Says ‘If Marvel Was Gone’ It’d Leave a ‘Big Hole,’ Tells Off MCU Haters: ‘Don’t Just S— on Something Without Offering Something Better’

As a die-hard Marvel fan since the early days of the MCU, I completely empathize with Sebastian Stan‘s sentiments about the continuous backlash against Marvel movies. Having witnessed the incredible journey of these films and characters over the past decade, it’s disheartening to see them being criticized without offering constructive alternatives.

Actor Sebastian Stan, known for his role as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” expressed frustration once more about Marvel being a frequent target of criticism within Hollywood, during an interview with GQ UK magazine.

Stan expressed that he’s never been with a company as dedicated as this one in terms of care and consideration for their work,” Stan said in an interview. “I believe if Marvel were to disappear, it would leave a massive void difficult to replace. Instead of criticizing, try to propose something superior.

2023 releases from Marvel Studios were generally met with disapproval by fans, who found movies like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels” to be box office disappointments and critical flops. In fact, “The Marvels” set a new record as the studio’s lowest-grossing film ever made. Over time, Marvel has faced criticism from esteemed directors like Martin Scorsese for significantly impacting movie theater distribution and pushing smaller films out of multiplexes.

During a recent feature interview for EbMaster, Stan expressed his viewpoint that despite certain film enthusiasts persistently critiquing the quality of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and its profound impact on cinematic culture, he views these productions as integral to the overall wellbeing of the entertainment industry.

Stan commented, “It’s now quite simple to criticize Marvel films.” He continued, “While I understand everyone has their own perspective, these movies are a significant contributor to our industry and make it possible for smaller productions too. They serve as a vital artery within the Hollywood system, nourishing many areas that often go unnoticed.

At times, I become quite guarded about it since the initial intent is truly noble,” Stan explained then. “Making a great film repeatedly is simply incredibly challenging.

This year, Marvel regained momentum with the summer debut of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which raked in a staggering $1.3 billion globally, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film ever. Notably, there are no upcoming MCU releases scheduled for the rest of this year. In the limelight for the next Marvel blockbuster slated for next year, “Thunderbolts,” is Stan’s Bucky/Winter Soldier. He’s eager to see if the character will stick around long enough for a face-off with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom on the silver screen.

Stan remarks, ‘I truly want to act alongside him.’ He’s the only one I see who could handle that role convincingly, I think. Since ‘Tropic Thunder,’ has there been anything he couldn’t excel at?
