As a passionate cinephile, I recently had the pleasure of joining Jim Acosta on his Substack podcast to discuss the captivating new film “Words of War.” Our conversation touched upon various global political issues, with the charismatic Sean Penn offering his unfiltered insights. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t mince words when expressing his concerns about the potential threats posed by President Trump and the current trajectory our nation is taking.
Discussing El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele and the possibility of Donald Trump attempting to extend his time in the White House beyond his term limit, Penn cautioned about potential worst-case scenarios. He speculated that Trump might resort to actions so extreme as to potentially endanger the world before he reaches the natural end of his life.
Penn suggests that Donald Trump might resemble someone who’s been left by their spouse, possibly for another, who then kills their former partner because they can’t bear to see them with someone else. Penn believes that Trump’s actions toward the world reflect a similar solipsism, where he sees destruction as a form of power play and a way of ensuring his ultimate dominance.
Congressman Eric Swalwell expressed concern that if President Penn doesn’t trust anyone to safeguard him, he might escalate his actions towards the country in order to ensure self-preservation. As an executive producer on “Words of War” and a podcast guest, Swalwell made this observation.
Swalwell stated that our last resort is having a Congress capable of curbing it, a media outlet that will report truthfully about it, an impartial court to decide on it, and a public square buzzing with Americans who firmly reject it.
Maxine Peake and Jason Isaacs are featured in “Words of War,” a drama based on the life of Anna Politkovskaya, the late Russian journalist who was tragically murdered outside her Moscow apartment in 2005.
Regarding Russia and the topic of the movie, Penn expressed his viewpoint: “Individuals who believe it won’t occur in our region may not have fully understood the signs suggesting it could, if people aren’t actively engaged and well-informed.
“We are tasting in our country what the Russians have gone through,” Penn warned.
“Words of War” is now playing in selected theaters.
