As a seasoned movie critic with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Sean Penn is a rare breed – a true artist who not only excels in his craft but also stands for what he believes in. His latest comments on President Joe Biden’s pardon of Hunter Biden are a testament to this fact.

Sean Penn is “proud” about President Joe Biden’s most recent pardon.

As a movie critic, I’d rephrase it as follows: “Any father, in my opinion, would have made the same choice. If I were in their shoes, I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable raising a toast with someone who wouldn’t have granted clemency to Hunter Biden, considering he’s their son.

As a trusted companion and confidant to the younger Biden, whose artwork graces the walls of Penn, the actor describes the recently dismissed tax evasion accusations and firearm-related felony charges as “an exceptionally malicious smear campaign,” and “utterly irrational.

Penn mentions that since he’s well acquainted with him, he has delved into the case. Furthermore, there exists a specific instance in one case with technicalities suggestive of unlawfulness, but there’s scarcely any prior example for the fierce accusation he faced,” says Penn.

Despite initial promises not to grant clemency to family members, Penn contends that an aggressive and potentially harmful incoming administration, which Penn refers to as a “clown show” or a “dangerous clown show”, pressured President Biden into taking action.

Penn states that if Joe Biden had been elected president, he likely wouldn’t have granted a pardon to his own son. He doesn’t believe it was a lie, but rather a shift in thinking and circumstances.

As a citizen, Penn is hoping that this shift in circumstances might persuade the departing government to show greater leniency when granting presidential pardons.

He remarks, “It’s not still January,” implying that he hopes President Biden intends to maintain a continuous, focused effort on individuals who have been unjustly accused or overcharged, cases where extenuating circumstances were unfairly disregarded. He further expresses his belief that this focus will result in numerous pardons, which would be more beneficial for the world than allowing innocent people to suffer in prison.

And on personal level, Penn is thrilled for Hunter Biden, “one of the finest people I know.”

The celebrity praises this individual for overcoming a challenging addiction, stating that they possess invaluable resources to aid those struggling or families affected. He’s happy that there’s an opportunity now for them to share their support, a goal we know they deeply desire.

Might Penn offer a spot at his non-profit, CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort)?

“We would be proud to have him,” he says.  “He’s also a fantastic painter.”

During a conversation with EbMaster at the Marrakech Film Festival, Penn chose to keep quiet about his part in the enigmatic new movie by Paul Thomas Anderson alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, only expressing admiration for the continued air of mystery surrounding the production.

He grins, saying, “It’s best if they’re all similar.” He suggests that the audience will appreciate the mystery and should simply dive in to enjoy the experience.

Indeed, I find myself just as enthusiastic as the actor and director when it comes to one of my less prominent interests – carpentry.

In pondering his forthcoming ventures, whether on-camera or off, Penn has initiated a small professional group alongside his fellow carpenters, Harrison Ford and Nick Offerman. This club serves as a platform where they can exchange ideas, advice, and even workshop resources.

According to Penn, Ford has the ability to construct a house from scratch, demonstrating his versatility. Offerman, on the other hand, seems to favor woodworking over power tools. It’s my belief that ‘woodworker’ would be an appropriate epitaph for him.

And how might Penn want to be remembered?

My goal, which I’ve shared with my kids, is to become a dependable and organized person, often referred to as someone who has their act together. Regarding global issues, it’s essential to handle them thoughtfully, and maintaining a clear perspective helps in this aspect. It’s beneficial to keep things uncluttered.
