Sean Gunn Confirms His Superman Movie Role, What James Gunn Told Him He Could Say And Addresses Playing The Same DC Character As Pedro Pascal

The new Superman movie will officially mark the debut of Maxwell Lord in the DC Universe.

In a recent appearance at Northern Fancon (thanks to @DCFilmNews), a fan questioned Sean Gunn about potentially joining the DC Universe franchise as the upcoming live-action Maxwell Lord, and how he was preparing for this role, which was previously portrayed by Pascal. Although he couldn’t reveal any spoilers, Gunn officially hinted that Maxwell Lord will be featured in Superman, as he discussed some of his discussions with his brother regarding the development of this DC character within the DCU:

It’s astonishing how often Pedro Pascal and I end up competing for the same acting roles! [laughs] I recently asked my brother James Gunn if I could confirm that I’m actually in the upcoming Superman movie, and he said I can say I’m sort of in it. So, I guess you could say I have a minor role in the new Superman film.

In my experience, delving into the development of this character has been incredibly captivating. There’s a wealth of background information that my brother and I have gone over, but unfortunately, I can’t share any details about that. What I can tell you is that the universe where Pedro Pascal portrayed the character is strikingly dissimilar to our own reality. This difference becomes quite evident just by looking at the casting choices, though I jest a bit because it’s unlikely you’d consider me for roles of similar caliber [as Pedro Pascal]. He truly excels in those parts.

After the film is released, I’ll feel more at liberty to discuss it extensively, but for now, let me express that I thoroughly enjoyed the creative process behind it. In terms of my anticipation, I can hardly contain my enthusiasm about sharing this production with a wider audience and am eagerly awaiting their reactions.
