Sea Of Thieves Is Removing Its New Stealth Features Following Season 14 Launch Issues

As a seasoned Sea of Thieves player with countless hours spent sailing the treacherous seas, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon hearing about the latest turn of events. The excitement that came with the long-awaited addition of crouching, only to have it snatched away due to bugs, is bittersweet at best. It’s like being promised a hearty feast and finding out the cook ran out of ingredients just as the meal was about to be served.

Players of Sea of Thieves rejoiced over a long-awaited feature addition: After six years, the option to crouch was finally introduced in the game. The recent update brought several new stealth options for players to utilize, however, most of these features have since been temporarily disabled due to technical issues.

The enhancements were integral to the stealth-centric 14th edition of the game, but two major attractions – trap placement and hanging from ledges – were eliminated prior to release due to instability issues discovered during final testing. Surprisingly, additional elements are now being taken out just a few days post the Season 14 launch.

Production director Drew Stevens acknowledged that they are encountering some substantial challenges, as he shared an update on the Sea of Thieves YouTube channel.

Stevens emphasized that they are treating the current situation with utmost gravity and aren’t satisfied with the debut of Season 14. They plan to make significant adjustments to regain control. Their immediate focus is on improving Live Mode for a better user experience, followed by reactivating features once they meet their quality standards. As a result, Sea of Thieves will be offline for a brief maintenance period today. Unfortunately, they don’t have a quick fix ready for the major issues yet, but changes will be made today.

Among the significant matters at hand are certain recurring challenges that Sea of Thieves developer Rare has tackled before, such as swiftly switching weapons or maneuvering a character after being fired from a cannon, which is one example of these issues reappearing.

Due to some issues, features such as disguises and crouching have been temporarily turned off at launch, leaving blowdarts and grappling guns as the remaining Season 14 features. Stevens has stated that Rare aims to release a fix for crouching, gun swapping, and other significant problems by next week. Additionally, they plan to introduce trap-laying and ledge-hanging, as previously promised, around November.

In his recent video, Stevens acknowledged that he may have mentioned it previously and apologized for any repetition, but emphasized that improvements are necessary, as Season 14 has been affected by insufficient quality control. However, he also expressed that Rare is giving top priority to addressing the problems associated with Season 14.

During the upcoming updates, we’ll need everyone fully engaged to regain a high standard of game performance.
