SDCC Reveals New Footage Of The Crow, Starring Bill Skarsgård And FKA Twigs

As a long-time fan of the original The Crow comic book series and the iconic 1994 film, I was both excited and apprehensive about Lionsgate’s upcoming adaptation. Having grown up with the story of Eric Draven and Shelly Webster, I’ve always found the dark, gothic tale of love and revenge to be a captivating one.

At San Diego Comic-Con, movie enthusiasts were given an exclusive peek at Lionsgate’s upcoming production of The Crow. In the unveiled clip named “Get In The Back,” the main character Eric Draven, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård, confronts those who devastated his life (and in a way, took it away) in a brutal carjacking scene combined with a gunfight.

Following a harrowing ordeal where Eric was repeatedly shot and forced out of the moving car into the path of oncoming traffic, a semi-truck unfortunately ran him over. The aftermath left Eric critically injured with numerous bullet wounds and a severely damaged leg. Yet, astonishingly, Eric managed to pull himself up despite the odds against him, showcasing his indomitable spirit.

Instead of being a new take on the 1994 movie that gained a cult following, this rendition of The Crow is based on James O’Barr’s original graphic novel. Alexandra Daddario plays Eric in this film directed by Rupert Sanders, while FKA twigs portrays his deceased lover, Shelly Webster. Although she isn’t shown in the trailer, her image graces the movie poster, which was unveiled at Comic-Con.

In an intriguing twist, “The Crow” recounts the tale of Eric and Shelly, who are tragically taken on their wedding night as some long-hidden secrets of Shelly’s past resurface. Eric is offered a heartrending choice: save his beloved by giving up his own life, acquiring supernatural powers and navigating the boundary between living and dying while exacting vengeance upon those responsible for their deaths. The Comic-Con sneak peek seems to showcase one of Eric’s quests for retribution.

An R-rated film lasting 111 minutes is set for a US theater debut on August 24.
