As an avid movie buff who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless franchises, I must say that the announcement of “Scream 7” is a breath of fresh air. Despite the off-screen drama, it’s heartening to see the resilience of this iconic series, much like Ghostface itself.
Ghostface will kill again.
The seventh installment of the ‘Scream’ horror series, titled ‘Scream 7’, has been officially confirmed for a theater release on February 27, 2026. This much-anticipated movie has faced production hurdles, creative changes, and cast adjustments before finally making it to the big screen. The announcement was made via social media by Neve Campbell, reprising her role after a salary disagreement led to her absence in the previous film, as well as Kevin Williamson, the series creator and director for this sequel. Interestingly, ‘Scream 7’ will be the sole major release that week, with no significant premieres scheduled to compete against it. The following weekend will see the premiere of ‘The Cat in the Hat’ and ‘Hoppers’, both geared towards family audiences.
Since the announcement of “Scream 7”, there’s been quite a bit of drama happening off-set. Melissa Barrera, who played a key role in the last two movies, was let go from the sequel last year following her controversial social media remarks about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Jenna Ortega, who shared screen time with Barrera, unfortunately had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts with her Netflix series “Wednesday.” Christopher Landon, director of “Happy Death Day,” stepped down from the project in December 2023, describing it as a dream job that turned into a nightmare. He was subsequently replaced by Williamson. The production process also faced delays due to strikes by SAG-AFTRA and WGA.
Spyglass Media is producing the movie, which will be distributed by Paramount Pictures. After a pause after the 2011 release of “Scream 4”, the series was successfully revived with 2022’s “Scream” and 2023’s “Scream VI”, both directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
Guy Busick, a mainstay in television revivals, has been tapped to pen “Scream 7.” The production duties for this project will be handled by Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein. Radio Silence is set to serve as executive producers for the film.
