Scott Pelley Says Bari Weiss Is ‘Murdering” 60 Minutes

Scott Pelley, a correspondent for 60 Minutes, reportedly accused Bari Weiss, CBS News’s editor-in-chief, of ruining the show, according to the New York Times. Pelley allegedly raised his voice at several executives, including Nick Bilton, the show’s executive producer. Bilton addressed rumors that the show would be drastically changed, stating that the focus would remain on quality journalism and that reports of turning 60 Minutes into short, TikTok-style segments were untrue. He also defended Weiss, saying she cares deeply about the show. Pelley then interrupted, claiming Weiss was intentionally destroying 60 Minutes and was unqualified for her position, pointing to what he described as disastrous changes she’d made to the Evening News. He questioned why anyone would expect improvements under her leadership. Weiss was not present during this exchange.

Internal conflict grew at the news organization when six experienced employees – producers Tanya Simon, Draggan Mihailovich, Guy Campanile, and Matthew Polevoy, and correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega – were let go, an event staff now refer to as “Black Thursday.” Later, management reportedly delayed airing a segment about a Salvadoran prison, CECOT, just three hours before its scheduled broadcast, citing the need for more fact-checking. The segment eventually aired with only minor revisions.
