In the upcoming series “It’s Not Like That” on Amazon Prime Video, Scott Foley takes on the role of Malcolm, a contemporary cleric.
In November, Wonder Project’s faith-based series was given a series order by Prime Video, which effectively removes any remaining contingencies related to casting.
The plot summary for “It’s Not Like That” reads: “Lori has just gone through a divorce, while Malcolm is a widowed father of three, both with teenage children. Their families used to share everything, but now Lori and Malcolm are dealing with their newfound single lives, parenthood, and the challenges of Malcolm being a contemporary minister. Could this be the start of a romantic story? It’s not that straightforward. Or perhaps it is?”
“In ‘It’s Not Like That’, Lori is newly divorced with teenagers, while Malcolm recently lost his wife and has kids the same age. They used to spend a lot of time together as families, but their lives have changed now that they’re single. Malcolm is also a modern minister, which adds another layer of complexity. Could this story lead to romance? It might not be what you think, or maybe it will!
Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson are the ones responsible for developing this series and they’ll be in charge as showrunners. Alongside them, Jon Erwin, Justin Rosenblatt (who heads global television at Wonder Project), Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, Alex Goldstone from 42 & Anonymous Content, and Kingdom Story Company will serve as executive producers. The production of the series is handled by Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios, with Justin Rosenblatt keeping an eye on the project for Wonder Project.
Recently, Foley has appeared in Netflix’s show “La Dolce Villa” and plays Dr. Seth McDale on ABC’s “Will Trent.” You can also expect to see him again in the upcoming seventh part of the “Scream” series. He is represented by Independent Artist Group, Atlas Artists, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern talent agencies.
Deitchman and Robinson are presently jointly overseeing the production of “Off Campus,” a series that was greenlit on Amazon Prime Video in October. Their previous works encompass various shows on Amazon, NBC, Fox, and Freeform, such as “As We See It,” “Carnival Row,” “Z: The Beginning of Everything,” “Ordinary Joe,” “Rise,” “Almost Family,” and “The Bold Type.” They have also contributed to the scriptwriting for the successful NBC series “Parenthood” and authored the screenplay for “Life as We Know It.
