Over the past ten years, he’s firmly established himself as an authentic action star, but unfortunately, some of his films have flown under the radar due to their discreet streaming release approach. One such movie was his 2020 action thriller, Project X-Treme, which has seen a revival five years later on Starz.
Under the direction of Isaac Florentine, the movie titled “Seized” is not particularly successful in countering accusations that it bears a strong resemblance to Liam Neeson‘s critically acclaimed action thriller “Taken“. In fact, the title “Seized” itself seems like an obvious reference to Neeson’s film. The plot revolves around Adkins as Nero, a former special forces operative, whose son gets kidnapped, compelling him into a perilous mission. To retrieve his child, Nero must embark on a grueling journey, bringing down three merciless crime groups at the behest of an enigmatic foe. Mario Van Peebles delivers a captivating portrayal as the cunning antagonist, while the film offers unyielding action, with Adkins showcasing his typical dedication to the movie’s numerous fight scenes.
Upon its release in 2020, the film “Seized” garnered a mix of responses from critics who took notice, as well as from fans accustomed to Adkins’ intense action violence. While Adkins was lauded by his devoted fanbase for offering another brutal and gory revenge flick, the movie’s main flaw lay in its overly familiar plot. In a competitive market filled with similar action movies, “Seized” struggled to captivate audiences and largely disappeared without leaving much of an impact.
‘Seized’ Has Found New Success on Starz
Five years after its initial release, the film “Seized” – much like other less-remembered thrillers from Adkins’ catalog – has recently seen a resurgence on a new streaming platform. Interestingly, it had previously been available for streaming on Netflix. However, since it was added to Starz, “Seized” has managed to retain a substantial audience, propelling it to the number two spot on their movie chart.
For quite some time now, Adkins has been a preferred actor among action enthusiasts, often being grouped alongside stars like Liam Neeson, Frank Grillo, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Sylvester Stallone due to his ability to consistently deliver high-quality action films in large quantities. Yet, Adkins’ career isn’t confined to the action genre alone; he has also made significant appearances in popular franchises such as John Wick, Universal Soldier, and even ventured into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that there’s much more to look forward to from Adkins! This year alone, he’s graced the screen in two movies – “Day of Reckoning” alongside Billy Zane and starring as the lead in the WWII film “Prisoner of War.” But that’s not all! By the end of 2025, an impressive four more projects are slated for release. Among them, you’ll see him in the highly anticipated Ben Affleck and Matt Damon collaboration, “RIP,” and reunited with British legend Vinnie Jones in “Reckless.
