Say Beetlejuice 3 Times and You’ll Get Jenna Ortega

As a longtime horror fan and movie critic with a soft spot for Tim Burton’s quirky creations, I am beyond thrilled to see Jenna Ortega joining forces with Michael Keaton in the new “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” trailer. Having grown up watching Winona Ryder and Keaton’s original performances in 1988’s “Beetlejuice,” it feels like a dream come true to see Ortega stepping into Lydia Deetz’s daughter’s shoes and bringing her unique energy to the role.

In the newly released trailer for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Jenna Ortega, known as the “scream queen” from “Wednesday,” encounters Michael Keaton, another scream queen and original star of “Beetlejuice” (1988). Ortega will portray Lydia Deetz’s daughter in the upcoming sequel to Tim Burton’s classic horror-comedy. The original cast members are set to return, including Keaton, along with Burton himself. Rumors of a “Beetlejuice” sequel have circulated for years, with ideas such as “Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian.” According to Burton, who spoke with EW, they discussed various concepts during the early stages of development, including “Beetlejuice and the Haunted Mansion,” “Beetlejuice Goes West,” among others.

Summon a trailer.

Daylight comes and the juice is loose. A second trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is out and about, and not only do we get an angsty Jenna Ortega, but we get to see her among her fellow scream queens Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara as Lydia and Delia Deetz. The three attend a funeral in the first trailer, so that would explain where Alec Baldwin went. But the best part? Through totally avoidable circumstances, Ortega’s Astrid is dragged to hell by ghouls, requiring Beetlejuice to take Lydia on the rescue mission of an after-lifetime. There’s choreography, there’s bulging eyes, there’s Beetlejuice rizz. What can we say except congrats to Lauren Boebert?

Who’s back from Beetlejuice 1 (and who isn’t)?

I’m excited to share that Keaton and Ryder will once again bring their iconic characters, Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz, to life in the upcoming film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Catherine O’Hara is set to rejoin the cast, meaning she’ll be playing my onscreen grandma as Delia Deetz. Unfortunately, there’s no official announcement yet regarding the return of Jeffrey Jones and Alec Baldwin for their previous roles.

And who are the Neitherworld noobs?

Willem Defoe is said to portray a law enforcement officer in the next “Beetlejuice” sequel, while Monica Bellucci transforms into Beetlejuice’s seemingly vengeful spouse. In the trailer, she tells Defoe, “I’ve never met you before in this world or the next.” Alongside Danny DeVito and Arthur Conti from “House of the Dragon,” Justin Theroux (“Mulholland Drive”) is set to join the cast. His character, named Rory, is yet to have its role fully revealed.

Lemme get a look at these ghouls.

Entertainment Weekly released exclusive previews of the Deetz family reunion following a family member’s passing. Burton remained tight-lipped about the storyline, merely commenting, “That’s all I can share.”

When does Beetlejuice Beetlejuice creep into theaters?

As a film enthusiast, I’m excited to share that Warner Bros. has announced its plans to drop a new horror flick on September 6, 2024. This release date is perfect, as we approach the spooky season, and I can’t help but feel that this movie will leave quite an impression on the Wednesday writers, giving them a good scare!
