Jigsaw won’t be returning to theaters in 2025 after all.
Originally planned for release on September 26, 2025, “Saw XI,” the latest addition to the long-running horror franchise, has been cancelled. Instead, Lionsgate’s slasher film “The Strangers – Chapter 2” will take its place on this now open date.
It’s uncertain whether Lionsgate will release “Saw XI” at any given time, despite the studio having approved the sequel in 2023 and franchise veteran Kevin Greutert being assigned as director. However, according to Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who are responsible for writing the script, no advancement on the project has been made since they submitted a draft in the spring of 2024.
Billy, the ventriloquist doll employed by John “Jigsaw” Kramer in the movie “Saw,” seems to be quite knowledgeable about the subject matter, but he brushes off such discussions as unimportant talk.
In a statement issued by Lionsgate, Billy the Puppet stated, “I’ve heard the whispers. Some claim it’s ‘Game Over’. However, you ought to be aware of my character – the game is always far from finished.
Last summer saw the release of “The Strangers: Chapter 1” in cinemas, which managed to earn $48 million despite receiving unfavorable reviews from both critics and viewers. Surprisingly, Lionsgate plans to develop a standalone trilogy out of “The Strangers,” with the third chapter on its way. Unlike the 2008 thriller starring Liv Tyler, this series will follow a new storyline. In the first part, we find a young couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) who are stranded in a distant cabin after their car breaks down in a chilling small town. Their night takes a turn for the worse as they’re pursued by mysterious individuals wearing masks, showing no mercy or apparent motive.
Petsch assures us that they’re working hard to make ‘The Strangers—Chapter 2’ as frightening as they can. He’s excited to reveal it all to you on the 26th of September.
Producers Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon expressed their excitement, “Just like Stranger fans worldwide, we’re ecstatic about Chapter 2! It’s a movie that will have viewers on the edge of their seats. Releasing it in theaters this Halloween season is ideal, and we can hardly wait for everyone to discover where the story unfolds next.
