In recent weeks prior to her death, YouTube personality Mikayla Raines experienced cyberbullying which her mother, Sandi, has openly discussed. Following Mikayla’s passing, Sandi disclosed a message detailing the severe impact this online harassment had on her daughter’s psychological well-being.

30-year-old Mikayla Raines, the creator of Save A Fox, a well-known YouTube channel and nonprofit organization focused on rescuing and rehabilitating foxes as well as other animals, tragically took her own life at her residence in Rice County, Minnesota, on June 21st. With more than 2 million subscribers, her videos provided a glimpse into her animal rescue work and attracted a vast following.

Family speaks out after harassment claims

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “I’ve been open about the fact that my friend Mikayla has faced some rough times online. It’s been hard for her because of mean-spirited comments and bogus tales spread by certain folks in the animal rescue community.

She mentioned that Mikayla had a tender nature, but she faced challenges with her psychological wellbeing, such as autism, depression, and borderline personality disorder. These conditions made her particularly susceptible to the effects of being bullied.

She had assumed that [she] would stay for a while longer, but it turned out that her psychological problems, which originated when she was incredibly young, caused her to do so. This is what she shared with the media outlet.

Mikayla’s husband, Ethan Frankamp, also addressed the situation in a video posted to YouTube.

He affirmed that Mikayla experienced severe online bullying, and explained his actions in administering CPR to his spouse prior to the arrival of emergency services. He stated that this harassment stemmed from former acquaintances or fellow members of the same rescue team, who had launched accusations and personal insults at her.

Sandi expressed her wish that folks would take a moment to consider the damage their online speech and conduct might inflict. She urged responsibility and mindfulness, pointing out that such actions could bring serious repercussions, especially for those struggling with psychological well-being issues.

Mikayla’s memorial event has been planned at the Save A Fox sanctuary on July 12th. Since then, her supporters have urged greater focus on cyberbullying and the necessity of providing mental health resources for victims.

On June 24th, Overwatch enthusiasts found themselves grieving when they discovered that Mikayla’s foxes were actually the voices behind Kiriko’s spiritual entity.
