Sauron's Past Will Be Explored In Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2

As a die-hard fan of Middle-earth who has spent countless hours immersed in Tolkien’s lore and the adaptations that followed, I am beyond excited about the upcoming season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video!

In contrast to The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Rings of Power series on Prime Video places Sauron (portrayed by Charlie Vickers) as a central character in its narrative. During Season 1, Sauron was subtly presented among us as Halbrand, and now in Season 2, we will witness the unfolding of his sinister plan. Furthermore, Season 2 promises to offer insights into how Sauron ascended to become the dark overlord of Middle-earth.

According to IGN, The Rings of Power Season 2 will take us back 1,000 years into the past, focusing on the fall of Morgoth, the initial dark lord in J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy universe. During these flashback scenes, we’ll see Jack Lowden as a younger Sauron, and the series will introduce the roots of his conflict with Adar, played by Sam Hazeldine, the main antagonist from Season 1. This narrative segment implies that Adar might not have recognized Sauron in Season 1 because they first met when Sauron had a different appearance.

In the video you see, we get a sneak peek at young Sauron, as he assumes his new role this season as Annatar, the Lord of Gifts. This is an important aspect of Tolkien’s lore, because Sauron needed the aid of Elven-smith Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) to forge the One Ring and other Rings of Power. Even popular video games like Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War have delved into the history between these two characters.

On August 29, Amazon Prime Video is set to debut the initial episodes from Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Subsequent installments will become available every week until October 3. Fear not, as Middle-earth enthusiasts, you won’t have to wait long for additional tales. In fact, the animated film titled The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is slated for a theater release on December 13.
