Sara Gilbert Hints At Epic Big Bang Theory Spinoff Return—Is Chuck Lorre Paying Attention?

As a longtime actress and producer who has been a cornerstone of the TV world throughout my adult years and beyond, I, Sara Gilbert, am preparing to bid a possibly permanent goodbye to the character of Darlene Conner in ABC’s The Conners, which will conclude along with many other shows in 2025. It doesn’t seem like I have plans to rejoin another classic sitcom, but interestingly enough, I have spoken about my potential interest in reprising my role as Leslie Winkle in the Big Bang Theory universe.

In 2007, around ten years after “Roseanne” concluded its eccentric ninth season, and three years prior to her joining “The Talk,” Gilbert received an invitation from Chuck Lorre, a former “Roseanne” writer and co-creator of “The Big Bang Theory,” to reunite with her television partner Johnny Galecki in the newly launched CBS sitcom. She made her debut in the second episode of the series, and subsequently appeared multiple times throughout the years. Her last appearance on the show was in Season 9, Episode 200, alongside Adam West and Stephen Hawking.

Affection for Johnny”: Sara Gilbert and Jay R. Ferguson of the Conners Express Optimism about a Possible Comeback for Johnny Galecki’s Character, David

Sara Gilbert recently appeared on “The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast” where she chatted with host Jessica Radliff about reuniting with Galecki and Lorre. She reminisced about the sitcom’s third episode, “The Fuzzy Boots Corollary,” particularly its suggestive dialogue, and specific memories connected to it. Regarding a possible return of Leslie on screen and her desire to come back more in the early days, Gilbert shared:

1) Would fans ever get to see Leslie again on television?
2) Was there a wish to appear more often during the show’s initial phases?

Gilbert responded to these questions by saying:

Yeah I would do more. I would have done more at the time.

It wasn’t up to her to decide how frequently she should come back as Leslie, given her significant character role comparable to the male leads. Known for her strong will and intelligence, Vickie was a formidable presence that left an impact. However, it seemed challenging for the writers to develop and sustain her character from one week to the next, as she herself acknowledged.

In my perspective, the writers seemed to encounter a creative block when it came to further developing the character, likely due to her swift departure from certain dynamics. It left them thinking, “Well, what’s next?” She has a unique personality trait that makes her act in a specific way, and once she moved on, the storyline didn’t have much room to grow. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and since I love my work, I was more than eager to be a part of it all.

One can’t help but question: How much salt should one add to reactions as enthusiastic as those mentioned earlier? For instance, if someone suddenly barged into a podcast interview and proposed Sara Gilbert a recurring role on the spinoff of Max’s Big Bang, would she genuinely accept it? Or would she instead prefer to make a more limited appearance?

In the latest spin-off called “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe“, Kevin Sussman reprises his role as Stuart, with John David Bowie, Lauren Lapkus, and Brian Posehn joining him as Barry, Denise, and Burt. As of now, there’s no news on possible guest stars. However, given its connection to TBBT, it’s hard to imagine the show without links back to the original series.

Although the cast of “The Conners” hasn’t been frequently mentioned in recent casting calls, it’s a different story for the stellar cast of “The Big Bang Theory”. Kaley Cuoco’s Peacock show has been terminated, but she’s already got another new project lined up, and she recently teamed up with Johnny Galecki for an exciting new commercial. Meanwhile, Mayim Bialik and Simon Helberg are set to make guest appearances on Melissa Rauch’s “Night Court” by the end of its current season.

Regarding their possible involvement in the spin-off, Mayim Bialik seems open to it, and Kaley Cuoco has shown interest too; however, Jim Parsons may require more persuasion.
