‘Sangre del Toro’: Feature Documentary About ‘Modern-Day Minotaur’ Guillermo Del Toro Launching in Cannes With Brilliant Pictures (EXCLUSIVE)

Renowned filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro, who has triumphed at the Oscars three times and is widely recognized in contemporary cinema, is the focus of an upcoming feature-length documentary.

The project titled “Sangre del Toro” is being directed by Yves Montmayeur, who gained acclaim through his documentary “The 1000 Eyes of Dr. Maddin,” focusing on filmmaker Guy Maddin. This project is currently in post-production and expected to be released in the year 2025.

Picture Mastery Group has obtained global distribution rights for “Blood Bull” and plans to showcase unique, never-before-seen clips to potential buyers during the Cannes Film Festival.

According to the explanation, “Sangre del Toro” explores how Guillermo del Toro seamlessly merges his Mexican roots with the influences from his residences in Hollywood, Paris, and his hometown Guadalajara. This blend of cultures is depicted as a modern-day Minotaur, symbolizing del Toro as both a human and a monster figure, traversing a complex path of creativity and symbolism. The movie invites viewers on an exploration through the magical labyrinth of del Toro’s mind, revealing the humanistic and monstrous aspects that shape his cinematic world.

Brilliant Pictures’ Sean O’Kelly and Marc Bikindou, along with Thierry Tripod from Brainworks, and Jad Ben Ammar of Kador, are the producers of ‘Sangre del Toro’.

According to O’Kelly, Yves Montmayeur’s extensive connection with Guillermo del Toro adds an authenticity and richness to this documentary. We are excited to contribute to a venture that provides such a deep dive into the life and work of one of cinema’s most imaginative filmmakers.

The CEO of Brilliant Pictures commented, “The film ‘Sangre del Toro’ will be an engaging fit in our lineup of documentaries. It harmonizes beautifully with our aim to present profound and artistically impactful movies to viewers around the world.

Ben Ammar concurred, stating, “Working alongside Brilliant Pictures and Yves Montmayeur on this project has been incredibly rewarding. The upcoming documentary ‘Sangre del Toro’ is expected to be a significant milestone, showcasing the creative brilliance of Guillermo del Toro.

As a passionate cinephile, I eagerly anticipate the simultaneous unveiling of Guillermo del Toro’s “Sangre del Toro” and his adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Gothic masterpiece, “Frankenstein,” slated for Netflix premiere in November.
