As a longtime admirer and observer of the entertainment industry, I can truly say that Sandy Bresler was one of its giants. His 60-year partnership with Jack Nicholson is a testament to his unparalleled ability to nurture and guide talent.
Longtime representative of Jack Nicholson, Sandy Bresler, passed away on Thursday in Santa Monica. He was 87 years old.
In 1983, John Kelly and Bresler established an autonomous advertising firm known as Bresler-Kelly & Associates.
He began his career as an assistant at William Morris back in 1960. Subsequently, he shifted to ICM, and eventually, he departed to found Bresler, Wolff, Cota & Livingston, a firm that would later become famously known as the Artists Agency.
Bresler built a reputation for maintaining deep, enduring client relationships while providing tailor-made talent management services.
In 1999 at the Golden Globes when Jack Nicholson was given the Cecil B. DeMille award, he honored his long-time agent Bresler. “There’s just one representative who has stood by me, steered my career, endured my outbursts and dramatic antics,” Nicholson stated during his speech. Laughing, he quipped, “I can’t remember his name right now,” before adding, “Sandy Bresler, my friend and fellow warrior!” (paraphrased)
For nearly three decades, he sat on the board of the Association of Talent Agents, even serving as its president for more than a decade. Additionally, he was an enduring member of the Motion Picture Academy throughout his lifetime.
During Sandy’s exceptional term, both as a valued companion and an inspiring figurehead, he consistently showed extraordinary commitment and forward-thinking guidance. Under his leadership, the association experienced considerable expansion and change, according to Karen Stuart, ATA’s Executive Director, in a public announcement.
“During his leadership, ATA broadened its scope and power. Sandy’s relentless dedication to the talent agency field significantly boosted our members’ causes and raised the entire industry. Many looked up to him as a mentor, and his influence will continue to resonate for years.”
He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly six decades, Nancy, his son Eric, daughter Jennifer Galperson (married to Rob), as well as his twin grandsons, Brandon and Jonah Galperson.
The funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, the 6th of August, starting at midday, at Hillside Memorial Park, located at 6001 W. Centinela Avenue, Los Angeles, California, 90045.
