Sandra Hüller, Colman Domingo to Star in Goran Stolevski’s Satirical Drama ‘True-ish,’ Set to Launch at Cannes Market (EXCLUSIVE)

Actors Sandra Hüller, known for her Oscar-nominated roles in “Anatomy of a Fall” and “The Zone of Interest,” along with Colman Domingo from the film “Sing Sing,” are all set to appear in Goran Stolevski’s upcoming production titled “True-ish.” This satirical drama serves as his second project following “Housekeeping for Beginners.

The films “True-ish” have been obtained by Charades and New Europe Film Sales for international distribution, while UTA Independent Film Group will handle its distribution in North America. This highly anticipated production is set to be showcased to potential buyers during the Cannes Film Festival marketplace.

Presently in development, the series titled “Somewhat True” introduces Janet Paine, a conscientious yet self-doubting Manhattan PR expert known for her crafty smear tactics. The story unfolds as she finds herself relocated to the Balkans for a seemingly benign position – director of outreach at a ‘peace lab’. However, this role is far from innocent; it involves manufacturing false news intended to undermine political regimes on the periphery of the EU.

As she yearns to rectify past errors and demonstrate her proactiveness, she becomes entangled in a web of deceit, fabricating footage of atrocities that only deepens her predicament, with severe international ramifications.

Filmmakers Kristina Ceyton and Samantha Jennings, longtime collaborators of Stolevski, are producing the upcoming film through their production company, Causeway Films (known for “The Babadook” and “Talk to Me”). The production tentatively titled “True-ish” is set to start filming in Eastern Europe during early 2026. This project will receive financial backing from both Australian and European government funding bodies as well as local tax benefits.

The producers stated that ‘Somewhat true’ embodies the ideal fusion of Causeway’s continuous commitment to nurturing exceptional artists and creating daring, independent films with promising commercial success,” they explained.

Ceyton and Jennings referred to Goran as “one of Australia’s most captivating voices in filmmaking,” further stating: “It’s an honor for us to be working together for a fourth time, especially with such a talented cast. We aim to create a movie that is both thought-provoking and relatable, while also being deeply emotional and filled with humor.”

Ceyton and Jennings described Goran as “one of Australia’s most intriguing filmmakers,” expressing their delight in working together for the fourth time: “With this impressive cast, we strive to produce a film that is as poignant and timely as it is emotionally stirring and hilariously funny.

Charades and New Europe Film Sales expressed their excitement about bringing to life “this exhilarating, rollercoaster ride of a comedic movie with such an enthusiastic cast and team.” They also mentioned that they are avid supporters of Goran’s innovative perspective on the subject matter and his creative storytelling style – cheering him on every step of the way!

Hüller was recently involved in the filming of “Project Hail Mary” with Ryan Gosling, as well as an unnamed project directed by Alejandro Iñárritu, featuring Tom Cruise. This work was done under the representation of UTA and Agentur Schneider.

As for me, I’m fortunate to be managed by both WME and Liebman Entertainment. Upcoming projects include starring in Gus Van Sant’s “Dead Man’s Wire” and Edgar Wright’s “Running Man”. Additionally, I’ll soon start working on an unnamed film directed by Steven Spielberg, alongside Emily Blunt in production. Stolevski, on the other hand, is represented by UTA.

At the Cannes Film Festival, Charades is accompanying films like Julia Ducournau’s “Alpha” and Dominik Moll’s “Dossier 137”, which are competing, as well as Harris Dickinson’s “Urchin”, which is being screened at Un Certain Regard.
