Samsung Has An Interesting Foldable Concept To Make Gaming More Travel-Friendly

This week saw the commencement of the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, featuring a flurry of tech unveilings from numerous companies. One intriguing idea for the possible evolution of handheld gaming consoles came from one of Samsung‘s divisions. In essence, they propose that cumbersome game consoles could be made more portable by employing foldable-screen technology, allowing them to be compacted and carried with greater ease.

Samsung’s screen technology division, Samsung Display, showcased a device reminiscent of Nintendo Switch during MWC: Barcelona (as reported by CNET). This demonstration highlighted the possibility of creating smaller consoles through a foldable design, where the device can be folded in half. However, it’s important to note that foldable devices often have potential issues such as screens developing creases after repeated folding. Nonetheless, this concept design offers an intriguing peek into what future technology might hold.

At the MWC 2025 event, Samsung Display unveils innovative ideas:

✅ Flexible Briefcase Transformation: This briefcase transforms into an expansive 18.1-inch tablet when opened.

✅ Flex Gaming Revolution: A compact gaming console boasting a foldable 7.2-inch screen.

✅ State-of-the-art OCF OLED panel technology capable of achieving a blinding 5,000 nits peak brightness within a 10% viewing area,…

Although portable gaming devices such as the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and the forthcoming Switch 2 don’t yet feature foldable screens, it’s possible that these manufacturers may incorporate this technology into future models. In the meantime, a protective carrying case seems to be the most practical option for transporting your device. If you prefer a more vintage approach, handheld consoles like the Game Boy, Nintendo DS, or PlayDate are compact and pocket-friendly options.

Today’s advanced smartphones can double as gaming devices, and Asus has even released a model tailored exclusively for mobile gaming. Moreover, accessories such as the Backbone can help create a gaming session that mimics a console-like experience.
