
Following the success of ‘s monster movie Thrash, viewers began searching for similar content. While another attempt didn’t quite hit the mark, Crawl demonstrated the right approach a few years prior.
According to FlixPatrol, the 2019 movie Crawl has been consistently popular on Paramount+ in the US, staying in the top ten for twelve days and currently holding the No. 7 position. While it briefly reached No. 2 on April 14th, it’s still performing well and doesn’t appear to be leaving the chart anytime soon. The film was produced by Sam Raimi.
Sam Raimi’s Crawl — Explained
Directed by Alexandre Aja and written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, the movie aims to deliver a frightening and suspenseful survival horror story. Kaya Scodelario and Morfydd Clark play sisters Haley and Beth Keller, who must fight for their lives when a massive Category 5 hurricane unleashes alligators upon them.
In addition to Kaya Scodelario and Blake Clark, Crawl features Barry Pepper as the father of Haley and Beth, Dave, and Ross Anderson as Beth’s ex-boyfriend, Wayne. The main cast is completed by Jose Palma, Colin McFarlane, Ami Metcalf, Anson Boon, George Somner, and the dog, Cso-Cso.
The film was a big hit with audiences and critics when it was released in theaters, earning over $91 million despite costing only $15 million to make. It received positive reviews, achieving an 84% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 200 reviews. Viewers also generally liked it, giving it a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ “Popcornmeter” after more than 5,000 ratings.
What Is Thrash — And Why Is It Such a Hit?
Tommy Wirkola’s new film, Thrash, premiered on Netflix on April 10th, delivering another scary story about sharks. The movie follows a pregnant woman stuck in the town of Annieville when a massive Category 5 hurricane hits. Things get even worse when the storm unleashes a swarm of different kinds of hungry sharks, all targeting the people left stranded in the town.
The film featured Whitney Peak, Alyla Browne, Josh McConville, Amy Mathews, Chai Hansen, Tyler Choppin, and Andrew Lees. However, despite the cast and director Markus Wirkola’s efforts, the movie didn’t receive positive reviews from critics or audiences.
Currently, the film Thrash has a low score on Rotten Tomatoes, with only 42% approval from critics and a 24% audience score. These ratings are based on 52 reviews from critics and over 250 reviews from viewers.
Despite receiving negative reviews, the new film Thrash has quickly become a global hit. Within days of its release, it’s become the most-watched movie worldwide, reaching number one on streaming charts in over 90 countries. It currently leads the global chart by a significant margin, nearly three times more popular than its closest competitor, Sniper 2.
