Sally Field Reveals Robin Williams Changed ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ Filming Order So She Could Leave Set After Her Father Died: ‘He Was Very Sensitive and Intuitive’

As a movie enthusiast with a soft spot for heartwarming tales of camaraderie behind the silver screen, I find myself deeply moved by the story of Robin Williams and Sally Field. The way he selflessly supported her during her personal tragedy on the set of “Mrs. Doubtfire” is a testament to his empathy and compassion.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to share an emotional story about Sally Field and Robin Williams from their time on the set of “Mrs. Doubtfire.” During the shooting, Field experienced a heart-wrenching loss when her father passed away. Despite wanting to keep this personal tragedy private and avoid disrupting production, the astute Robin Williams noticed something amiss with his co-star.

“Field revealed for the first time, ‘I’ve never spoken about this incident before.’ On that day, I was stationed outside the courtroom while we were filming the divorce scene. Unfortunately, my father had a stroke a few years earlier and was in a nursing home. A doctor called me to inform that he had passed away due to another massive stroke. The doctor asked if I wanted them to resuscitate him, but I declined, telling them, ‘He didn’t want it. Just let him go. And please, if possible, lean down and whisper, “Sally says goodbye.”‘”

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I was utterly overwhelmed. Upon stepping onto the set, I put forth every ounce of effort to deliver my lines authentically. I wasn’t shedding tears, but Robin approached me, guided me off the set, and inquired, “Are you alright?”

Upon learning from Field that her father had passed away, Williams exclaimed immediately, “Oh my goodness, you must come here instantly!”

As a seasoned observer of human nature, I have encountered many individuals who exhibit a variety of personalities, but none quite like Robin. In my years of interacting with people from all walks of life, I can confidently say that his sensitivity and intuition were traits seldom found in others.

During the production of “Mrs. Doubtfire,” Robin Williams significantly influenced several of his fellow actors. Lisa Jakub, who portrayed the eldest daughter in the movie during her teenage years, shared with Fox News Digital this year that Robin Williams was the one to candidly discuss mental health issues with her when they collaborated on “Mrs. Doubtfire.”

“Jakub shared that he talked about his hardships and experiences with me,” he explained. “It was the first time I felt understood, as if I wasn’t unique in my challenges. It simply meant that some of us share this journey.”

“In ‘Mrs. Doubtfire,’ it was Robin Williams who played a role as a father, who resorted to disguising himself as a female housekeeper in order to gain employment for his divorced wife and maintain contact with his kids. This movie, released in 1993, was the second most profitable film of that year, earning approximately $441 million globally.”

In an interview on the “Brotherly Love” podcast in May, Jakub revealed that Williams offered assistance when his co-star was expelled from high school due to absences related to filming “Mrs. Doubtfire.”

I was in a tough spot, feeling overwhelmed and upset about a recent decision made by my school. But then Robin, a good friend of mine, noticed my distress and asked what was wrong. Moved by my situation, he took it upon himself to write a letter to my principal, expressing his concerns about the decision and advocating for me to continue pursuing my education and career simultaneously. I was amazed when I learned that Robin had gone this far on my behalf. To top it off, the principal not only received the letter but framed it and displayed it in the office – a gesture that spoke volumes about Robin’s influence and the school’s newfound understanding of my situation. This act of kindness from Robin and the support I received from the school have made a significant impact on my life, giving me renewed hope and encouragement to keep going.
