Among the pleasures of Nintendo Directs is often finding a hidden release or two, and on this occasion, it was the turn of Square Enix’s classic, SaGa Frontier 2. Initially launched for PlayStation in early 2000 in the west, Frontier 2 built upon its predecessors by offering non-linear gameplay and multiple paths players could traverse to reach their destination. Set in the land of Sandail, SaGa Frontier 2 features two primary narratives: those of Gustave XIII and Wil, chronicling these characters’ lives across several decades.
This update is simply the newest addition to Square’s long-term project aimed at rejuvenating a once inactive franchise. It encompasses games like SaGa Emerald Beyond, the remastered version of Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song, the remastered version of SaGa Frontier (1), and last year’s impressive remake, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven – a complete overhaul of the second Romancing SaGa game.
SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered is available now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Steam.
