SAG-AFTRA Foundation Sets Auction Fundraiser and ‘Antiques Roadshow’-Style Appraisal Event for Industry Memorabilia

As an enthusiast, I’d like to share an exciting opportunity! The SAG-AFTRA Foundation is organizing a fundraiser where actors are invited to contribute their unique industry artifacts and cherished keepsakes to the union headquarters for a valuation event reminiscent of “Antiques Roadshow.” This is a fantastic chance not only to support a worthy cause but also to gain insights into the history and potential value of your personal memorabilia.

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the philanthropic division of the actors’ union is collaborating with Heritage Auctions. On May 3rd and 4th, they are organizing “The Actors Auction,” a two-day appraisal event that takes place in the lobby of SAG-AFTRA’s Los Angeles headquarters. Any funds raised during this upcoming auction will be donated to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.

At Heritage Auctions, a team of skilled appraisers will be invited to assess various items and their value. Following this evaluation, performers have the option to put these items up for auction or keep them. The range of categories includes movie costumes and accessories, high-end handbags, old posters, scarce books, trading cards, autographs, fine arts, manuscripts, photography, animation artifacts, and more.

Or,

Heritage Auctions will have a group of experienced appraisers come in to evaluate the value of different items. Afterward, actors can decide whether they want to sell these items through an auction or not. The categories for sale encompass movie wardrobe and props, designer handbags, vintage posters, rare books, trading cards, autographs, fine and decorative arts, manuscripts, photography, animation art, and other items.

Joe Maddalena, Executive Vice President at Heritage Auctions, stated that Hollywood is brimming with overlooked treasures. Just as ‘Antiques Roadshow’ unveils hidden jewels in homes’ attics and cellars, this appraisal event will bring to light the extraordinary worth of film memorabilia and collectibles that have been stored away in cupboards and storage spaces.

The auction is another example of how SAG-AFTRA Foundation works to assist union members in need.

Attending this event isn’t just about uncovering your own hidden talents; it’s about contributing to a safety net for artists like us. We’re here not only to offer financial aid during tough times, but also to provide career-enhancing programs and professional resources, ensuring that performers at every stage of their journey can thrive.” (Courtney B. Vance, chairman of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation)
