‘Rye Lane’ Director Raine Allen-Miller Plotting London Heist Comedy ‘The Roots Manoeuvre’ With Amazon MGM’s Orion Pictures, Plan B (EXCLUSIVE)

Raine Allen-Miller, the esteemed British director who gained significant attention with her critically acclaimed and twice BAFTA-nominated 2023 debut feature “Rye Lane,” is now preparing to release her second film. As EbMaster uncovers, this is the information at hand.

Titled “The Roots Manoeuvre,” this upcoming production by Allen-Miller will continue the storyline in London, a departure from romantic comedy to a heist comedy this time around. Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures has taken on the project, with plans for a cinematic release. The team behind it includes Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner from Plan B, Damian Jones of DJ Films, and BBC Film, who will serve as executive producer alongside Jones, all of whom were involved in the production of “Rye Lane.

According to Allen-Miller’s script, “The Roots Manœuvre” tells a thrilling tale about a clever young lady executing an audacious theft to retrieve a misappropriated artifact. To conceal her actions, she navigates the chaotic scene of a grand wedding.

In 2023, the movie “Rye Lane” premiered at Sundance, followed by a release in the U.K. by BBC Film, BFI, and Searchlight Pictures, and on Hulu in the U.S. This film, set and filmed in South London, received acclaim for its fresh and endearing revamp of the romantic comedy genre. The movie also garnered 16 nominations at the British Independent Film Awards, winning two awards, and earned two BAFTA nominations, including one for outstanding British film and a best actress nod for co-star Vivian Oparah.

Following his first appearance on the big screen in “Rye Lane,” David Jonsson has quickly gained widespread recognition and demand for his talents. He’s garnered praise for his work in “Alien: Romulus” and secured roles in Frank Ocean’s directorial debut as well as Colman Domingo’s upcoming film, “Love Affair.” In the latter, he portrays Sammy Davis Jr., alongside Sydney Sweeney who plays Kim Novak. Most recently, Jonsson was honored with the BAFTA Rising Star award.
