As a huge fan of the X-Men and Deadpool franchises, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as I read about Ryan Reynolds bidding farewell to 20th Century Fox’s Marvel movies. The studio, which was once home to some of the most iconic superhero films, produced a mix of critical and commercial successes over the years. And let me tell you, those experiences were a big part of my own journey as a fan.
Ryan Reynolds is saying goodbye to the unpredictable and unconventional Marvel films produced by 20th Century Fox, which were known for their entertaining quirks but also inconsistencies and risks.
Disney acquired the studio back in 2019 where the first two “Deadpool” films, featuring Reynolds as the snarky anti-hero Deadpool, were produced. Previously, 20th Century Fox had created 18 Marvel adaptations such as “X-Men” with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, “Fantastic Four,” and “Daredevil.” The upcoming third “Deadpool” film, named “Deadpool & Wolverine,” is noteworthy because it brings these comic book characters that were once under the jurisdiction of 20th Century Fox into Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.
On Sundays, Reynolds posted a group photo from 2015 showcasing some notable actors from Marvel’s 20th Century Fox era. Among them were Channing Tatum as Gambit, whose movie was never released, alongside Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), James McAvoy (Professor Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Miles Teller (Mr. Fantastic), and Evan Peters (Quicksilver). Despite the mixed critical and commercial success of their films, as Reynolds mentioned in the caption, “we wouldn’t give up this experience for anything.”
