Initially, Rob McElhenney was intended to make an appearance as a guard from the Time Variance Authority (TVA) in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, but his cameo ultimately didn’t make it into the final cut. Almost a year later, Ryan Reynolds found the ideal method to express his apologies for this oversight.
Instead of merely being friends, Reynolds and McElhenney formed a partnership when they jointly acquired Wrexham AFC, a football club based in Wales, back in the year 2020.
Initially, Reynolds aimed to incorporate the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor into a scene with Deadpool and Wolverine, but the segment just didn’t fit right. As a result, the actor felt embarrassed and agreed to delete his appearance.
Currently, to honor McElhenney’s birthday, Reynolds has devised an idea: incorporating footage of their shared ownership at Wrexham into his previous films.
Ryan Reynolds says sorry to Rob McElhenney for Deadpool & Wolverine with special birthday edit
At the beginning of the video, Reynolds greets Robert with a “Happy Birthday!” He then expresses, in awe, that it’s another year, another orbit around Keith Moon, which is a metaphorical way of saying the Earth. He goes on to remark about the many ups and downs, or highs and lows, that Robert has experienced this past year.
You had an amazing moment when you appeared in Deadpool, but it was disappointing when you were removed from that film. To make up for that, I’ve added you into several of my other movies as a surprise for your birthday. You can watch these films at your local cinema or wherever Laserdisc is still sold.
Alright, let’s dive into a quick recap of Ryan Reynolds’ gaming-related roles. We’ve got Free Guy, The Amityville Horror, Blade: Trinity, Just Friends, Red Notice, The Proposal, RIPD, The Voices, Woman in Gold, Green Lantern, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, Detective Pikachu, and Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place on the list.

In my own words, “I truly adore you, I can’t wait to see you again, and by the way, it’s your birthday! Happy Birthday!” This maintains the original sentiment while making it more conversational and first-person.
I journeyed over 6 thousand miles to film my cameo. I trust you appreciated it as the theater where I watched it unfortunately overlooked and excised it.
Given I’m certain Ryan won’t betray me, I’m eager to see the movie and my appearance again today!
In a later Instagram post, Reynolds confessed to “killing a darling with this cameo.”
Although it embarrassed him greatly that his friend traveled across the Atlantic just to appear in a scene that didn’t materialize, he was thankful to have him by his side on set. When I’m with Rob, my heart calms and my body stops feeling anxious. He’s always there for others, and he was there for me. This is what he shared.
