Hulu is hoping this new take on The X-Files fares better than their cancelled Buffy reboot. Ryan Coogler’s revival of the classic series has cast its two main stars: Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler, who previously appeared together in Station Eleven. They’ll play highly accomplished, but very different, FBI agents who develop an unexpected connection while investigating unexplained cases in a previously closed-off division. Unlike a direct remake, sources say Patel and Deadwyler will be playing entirely new characters, not versions of Mulder and Scully. This has led to speculation about whether original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson might appear in the reboot. When asked at a screening in October, Coogler remained tight-lipped about the possibility of cameos.
Honestly, all the creator has hinted at is that his version is going to be seriously intense, and that his mom – a huge X-Files fan, by the way – read part of the script and absolutely loved it! I’m putting all my faith in him – Mama Coogler knows what he’s doing!
