The recent development where her conviction for involuntary manslaughter in the Rust shooting incident was sentenced to 18 months is deeply concerning. With the dismissal of Alec Baldwin’s manslaughter charges due to the alleged withholding of key evidence, it is only fair that Hannah’s case receives the same level of scrutiny and potential for a retrial.


The lawyer for Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the “Rust” armorer who was given a 18-month sentence for involuntary manslaughter, has requested that her conviction be overturned or a new trial be granted. This motion was filed following the dismissal of involuntary manslaughter charges against Alec Baldwin. In their filing obtained by The Wrap, attorneys Jason Bowles and his team argued, “Fairness and justice demand an immediate reversal of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s conviction, preventing our legal system from perpetuating this global embarrassment.” They claimed that prosecutor Kari Morrissey colluded to conceal evidence given by retired police officer Troy Teske. The filing asserts, “The State suppressed crucial exonerating evidence it was obligated to disclose, which would have significantly altered the trial’s course and possibly led to a different verdict.” Additionally, they asked for Gutierrez-Reed’s release from custody.
