Rupert Murdoch Seeks Family Trust Amendment to Leave Lachlan in Charge: Report

As a seasoned movie reviewer with a keen interest in the behind-the-scenes drama of the business world, I find myself both intrigued and saddened by the unfolding familial battle royale at the Murdoch family table. Having covered the rise and fall of many media dynasties, I’ve come to appreciate the unique complexities that come with intertwining personal and professional relationships.

I find myself caught in the midst of a contentious family dispute as my father, Rupert Murdoch, attempts to rearrange our family trust to name eldest son Lachlan as his successor upon his passing. However, three out of his four adult children are opposing his wishes, as reported by The New York Times on Wednesday.

A 48-page court decision, kept confidential and obtained by The Times, forms part of their report. Rupert Murdoch’s four grown children – Prudence, Elisabeth, and James – are opposing their father’s attempts to modify the trust. This family dispute has transpired behind closed doors but is now drawing wider attention as the court deliberates on petitions submitted by the three younger Murdochs.

Based on the Times report, Rupert Murdoch aims to preserve the politically conservative viewpoints expressed through Fox News, New York Post, Wall Street Journal, and other media properties under Fox Corp. and News Corp.

According to The Times, the older Murdoch is making this case in court: by letting Lachlan have control over the company without interruptions from his more politically liberal siblings, he can maintain the conservative editorial stance and, consequently, safeguard the business worth for all his descendants.

Last year towards the end, Rupert Murdoch initiated a dispute over amending a trust, trying to gain approval from his children. According to The Times, it was revealed that the anonymous probate commissioner would allow the amendment if Murdoch could prove his actions were in good faith and solely benefited his heirs.

Representatives for Rupert Murdoch and Fox could not immediately be reached for comment.
