As a seasoned film enthusiast with a keen eye for the intersections of art and societal issues, I find myself deeply troubled by the ongoing saga involving British actor and politician Laurence Fox. Time and time again, he has demonstrated an alarming disregard for the dignity and safety of marginalized communities, particularly the drag community.
A French drag artist named Nicky Doll has filed a lawsuit against British actor and political figure, Laurence Fox, following his offensive comments about drag performers participating in the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. On social media, he labeled these drag queens as “deviant little pedophiles.”
The event, showcasing drag artists depicting Greek deities, ignited global discussions. Fox expressed their opinion about the act via X, stating: “There’s no need for anger when those who wish to provoke you do so. Just laugh at the oddballs. Endless life can be a curse.”
In a declaration made by legal representative Anne Sophie-Laguens, Nicky Doll (formerly known as Karl Sanchez) revealed plans for a lawsuit. The communique outlined incidents of cyberbullying and menacing messages targeted at performers after the event on July 26.
“The statement expressed concern over multiple instances of provoking hatred, name-calling, cyberbullying, threats, and slander, all of which Sanchez has been subjected to. Notably, Sanchez, who became globally known through ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ has faced an unusually high level of hostility and ill will following the performance.”
“The statements made about these messages extend beyond mere artistic critique, and for some, they combine offensive and slanderous ideas, linking drag performances to pedophilia. Such comparisons are severe and unacceptable. Therefore, legal action has been taken, and any content or communication that equates Nicky Doll’s performance with the promotion of pedophilic acts will be reported.”
In a distinct interview with Today.com, Sanchez spoke directly to Fox: “I’m preparing to file another lawsuit against you for defamation, concerning the same subject matter where you were previously sued and found guilty.” The drag artist further stated: “This form of advocacy is my preferred method. I aim to make him pay for the harmful labels others have used, as I want to demonstrate that it’s high time to stop negatively stereotyping LGBTQ+ individuals.”
I strongly believe that it is unacceptable for anyone to use hate speech or misinformation about any group of people, including queer individuals, simply for entertainment. As someone who has experienced discrimination myself, I can attest to the harm and pain such language can cause. In this case, when you called my friend Crystal a pedophile without justification, it was not only hurtful but also dangerous. You should be held accountable for your actions, and I am prepared to stand with Crystal and take this matter to court if necessary. Let this serve as a reminder that such behavior will not be tolerated, @LozzaFox.

Previously, Fox has been involved in a legal dispute with a drag performer, not the first such instance. More recently, he was found liable in a High Court libel suit filed by Simon Blake, a trustee of Stonewall, and Crystal, a drag artist. The court ordered Fox to pay £90,000 ($115,200) each to Blake and Crystal as compensation. This legal action was triggered by Fox’s online remarks aimed at Blake and Crystal following his criticism over Sainsbury’s plans for safe spaces for Black staff members.
Activist and French DJ, Barbara Butch, has additionally made multiple police complaints following menacing death threats she received due to her involvement in the tableau performance during the Olympics opening ceremony.
The fox currently serves as the head of the Reclaim Party. His most recent acting role was portraying Hunter Biden in the 2022 production of “My Son Hunter,” broadcasted by Breitbart TV.
