Just announced, Japan has unveiled the remake of “Rummy’s Great Adventure I & II” for PC through Steam in Japan. They’ve also hinted on the official site of this roguelike game that a Nintendo Switch edition will be launched in Summer 2025.
Initially, both games surfaced through Datt Japan’s GAMEPACK distributions. Notably, the original GAMEPACK version of the second game can still be obtained on PC via the Japanese Microsoft Store since February 2013. In contrast, the upcoming remakes will introduce several novel features that were absent in the initial versions:
- A new high-difficulty Challenge Mode that adds new equipment and monsters, among others, and unlocks a brand-new story upon clearing it
- An Encyclopedia menu that will gradually unlock biographies and descriptions for characters, monsters, and items by achieving in-game feats
- Alternate color palettes for Rummy, which will be gradually unlocked through the Encyclopedia progressions
- Online Ranking leaderboard based on clear time and turns taken for both Normal and Challenge Modes
This project for a new version of the game was brought to life after a highly successful fundraising event on Campfire in September-October 2024. Originally, the company planned these re-releases as Rummy’s Great Adventure I & II HD Remaster. But, it eventually transformed into a complete remake, developed using Unity.
During the same campaign, Datto Japan also achieved an extra goal that obligated them to develop Rummy’s Great Adventure DX as a fresh sequel. Initially, both projects were intended for PC launch via Steam, but the extra funding enables them to distribute the games across various platforms, just like the gradual release on Nintendo Switch demonstrates.
