Roy Kapur Films, Digital Platform Pratilipi Partner to Bring Indian Stories to Screen, Beginning With Courtroom Drama ‘Charitraheen’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Pratilipi, the Indian digital storytelling platform, has joined forces with Roy Kapur Films on a strategic content collaboration. Together, they plan to jointly create and produce a range of movies and TV shows, drawing inspiration from Pratilipi’s extensive library of stories.

Through this collaboration, the involved companies will work together to select narratives from Pratilipi’s platform, invest jointly in their creation, and jointly pitch and produce these stories for major film studios and streaming platforms. The aim is to co-produce at least six projects – both films and series – over the course of the next three years.

Under the collaboration’s umbrella, the inaugural venture is titled “Charitraheen,” an engaging courtroom drama that boasts over 21 million reads on the Pratilipi app. It has accumulated more than 244,000 reviews and holds a remarkable rating of 4.88 out of 5.

Pratilipi boasts an impressive user base of more than 30 million people who engage monthly, with approximately 1.6 million contributing authors, and offers a vast library containing numerous tales in twelve different Indian languages.

Established by seasoned producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, Roy Kapur Films contributes its production knowledge and industry connections to the partnership. Notably, their portfolio encompasses “The Sky Is Pink,” which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival, Netflix productions such as “Yeh Ballet” and the crime thriller series “Aranyak”, and the SonyLIV series “Rocket Boys.” Their latest projects include “Deva,” “Pippa,” and “Tumse Na Ho Payega.

Roy Kapur Films is working on new ventures, such as the series “King of Matka” for Amazon Prime Video, and the grand-scale historical production “The Anarchy,” which is adapted from William Dalrymple’s popular novel.

Besides managing Pratilipi itself, the company is responsible for Pratilipi Radio (FM), Pratilipi Graphic Novels, Westland Publications, and IVM Audio Productions. They grant rights to stories in their network to collaborating entities for transformation into digital series, television programs, and motion pictures on streaming platforms.
