Rotten Tomatoes Launches New ‘Verified Hot’ Badge for Audience Reviews

As a seasoned cinephile with decades of movie-going experiences under my belt, I must say that Rotten Tomatoes‘ new “Verified Hot” badge is a game-changer for film enthusiasts like myself. This exciting development not only amplifies the already influential “Certified Fresh” Tomatometer badge but also gives due recognition to fan favorites that have captivated audiences worldwide.

Movie review giant Rotten Tomatoes unveiled a new badge to recognize top-rated movies that have won over audiences, based on their impressive score ratings.

As a supporter, I’m excited about the introduction of the “Verified Hot” badge. This new accolade will join our existing “Certified Fresh” Tomatometer badge, which is given to movies that have received high praise from critics. The “Verified Hot” badge, on the other hand, will be awarded to films that have verified audience scores of 90% or higher, signifying strong approval from viewers like us!

“Amanda Norvell, Vice President of Direct-to-Consumer Services at Fandango (the site’s owner), stated that people often look at both the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and the Tomatometer score from critics when choosing new movies to watch. She is thrilled about the introduction of ‘Verified Hot’, as it allows us to honor and highlight the theatrical films that fans have wholeheartedly endorsed, expressing their outstanding cinema experiences.”

Rotten Tomatoes is honoring the initial films that have been awarded the “Verified Hot” label on their Popcornmeter, which includes blockbuster movies from this summer such as “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Twisters,” “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “It Ends with Us,” and the sequel to “Inside Out.”

Starting from May 2019, when Rotten Tomatoes introduced verified audience scores, the “Verified Hot” badge will be added to over 200 films that have received a score of 90% or higher from their audiences, even if this recognition was not given at the time of initial release.

Movies such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and “The Color Purple,” along with critically acclaimed films like “Parasite” and upcoming titles like “Oppenheimer,” box office sensations including “Dune: Part Two,” “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” all receive the seal of approval.

Rotten Tomatoes has made improvements on how they rate their films and TV series from audiences, along with adjusting the timings to better mirror both fan and critic opinions. Learn more about these changes here.
