Roku users got a special treat with the season finale of Apple TV+’s hit show, Pluribus. The first season ended on December 24th with a dramatic finale that significantly changed the paths of the characters Carol (played by Rhea Seehorn) and Manousos (Carlos Manuel Vesga). Pluribus has become known for its unique and mysterious marketing, and this latest surprise for Roku users is part of that strategy.
Created by Vince Gilligan, the mind behind Breaking Bad, Pluribus was shrouded in mystery before its release on Apple TV+. It quickly became clear the show centers around a virus that makes most of humanity share a single consciousness, with a few people remaining unaffected. Despite the initial secrecy, Pluribus‘ clever marketing has successfully captured the audience’s attention and drawn them into its science fiction setting.
Why Roku City Says ‘Hello, Carol’ Is Thanks to Some Clever Marketing
Apple TV+ is now targeting Roku users with a clever marketing move. Hidden within Roku City, there’s a special Easter egg related to their show, Pluribus.
Roku City is the animated city you see on the screensavers of Roku devices. It’s famous for secretly including hidden references, or ‘Easter eggs,’ to upcoming movies and shows. A good example is when Roku transformed the city to advertise the Barbie movie in 2023, displaying the film’s release date on a billboard in the virtual cityscape.
Apple TV+ is using a clever marketing strategy, similar to one they’ve used before, to promote the upcoming season finale of Pluribus. In the days leading up to the December 24th release, a billboard in Roku City started simply displaying the message, “Hello, Carol.”
Throughout the show, characters often say this phrase, especially when addressing Carol, played by Seehorn, as it’s a signature greeting from the hive mind. It became especially frequent thanks to the Others, who used a pre-recorded message starting with “Hello Carol…” – a greeting Carol would hear every time she made a request.
The phrase “Hello, Carol” became a memorable part of Pluribus’ advertising. As part of the campaign, people could call a number and hear a recording saying, “Hi Carol. We’re so glad you called. We can’t wait for you to join us.”
During the events of Pluribus, the Others frequently used billboards and signs to get messages to Carol, especially after they left Albuquerque and had to reach her remotely.
The “Hello, Carol” sign in Roku City is another clever reference to the marketing for the show Pluribus, encouraging more people to watch. Despite some criticism about its slow speed, Pluribus is proving popular with viewers and has become Apple TV+’s most-watched original series, even beating Severance.
What to Expect After Pluribus’ Season Finale

With the recent finale of Pluribus, everyone is wondering what Apple TV+ has planned next. Good news: the show has been renewed for a second season, so we’ll get to see more of Carol’s journey.
Fans hoping for a quick return to the show might be disappointed. According to creator Vince Gilligan, a potential production start in May 2026 is unlikely, and there will be a significant gap between seasons.
Wow, the season finale of Pluribus really left me with so much to think about! Throughout the season, we learned more and more about this creepy hive mind – seriously, that whole ‘Soylent Green’ reveal was disturbing! – and in the last episode, we finally saw Carol and Manousos’ stories collide. They were the only ones on Earth who seemed to actually want to fix things, but even at the very end, I wasn’t sure if Carol was fully on board with their plan.
Manousos, after a long journey from Paraguay to find Carol, was starting to overcome the hive mind’s defenses. But when the Others revealed they were developing a way to bypass Carol’s immunity, she switched sides and began working with Manousos again. As the show returns for its second season, Manousos and Carol will be racing against time to save the world.
