The Playwood Project team has revealed that their upcoming roguelike tactical RPG, titled “Successor,” is set to debut on Steam’s Early Access platform on May 29th. In addition, this game will also support Steam VR.

The indie team behind the popular game Wartile, known as Playwood Project, has announced that their upcoming tactical RPG titled Successor will debut on Steam Early Access for both PC and VR versions of Steam on May 29, 2025. This tabletop-inspired game is set in a gloomy fantasy realm, and it combines striking miniature diorama graphics with strategic gameplay that intertwines with captivating rogue-lite elements.
In the game called Successor, players assume the position of Lords, guiding a group of seasoned, tiny warriors through various fascinating territories and intricately designed battlefields. Each kingdom is created randomly at play, ensuring a fresh challenge each time you engage. As explorers delve deeper, they must outfit their heroes, strategize every move meticulously, and choose their battles tactfully – for losing has actual repercussions.
The successor is set to debut in Early Access, offering a solid base of content. Playwood Games has meticulously prepared an extensive development plan, featuring additional Lords, diverse landscapes, formidable foes, and innovative systems – all of which will be shaped by the community’s input.
The game action unfolds dynamically, yet it provides a tactical break feature where players can temporarily halt time, employ special abilities, and see their impact before resuming real-time skirmishes. Battles may transpire in various settings such as forests, dungeons, or mountain passes, beware warriors for the terrain could influence battle’s outcome through its unique effects and modifiers.
