As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for action RPGs and a penchant for sci-fi, I can hardly contain my excitement over the new demo release of Robots at Midnight by Finish Line Games! Having grown up on a steady diet of 80’s Cassette Futurism, the setting alone sends shivers down my spine.
Today, Finish Line Games is making it possible for players to get a preliminary feel of their forthcoming sci-fi action RPG named Robots at Midnight by providing a playable demo on Steam. This game was first unveiled in November and is set to debut initially on Xbox Series X|S and PC in the last quarter of 2024. The developers hinted that it will eventually be launched on other platforms as well.
Characters take on the role of Zoe, guiding her through the universe of Yob. Finish Line Games portrays Robots at Midnight as an action RPG offering “vigorous souls-like battles, witty robots, colossal mechanical beasts, and a profound storyline.” Thus, players should anticipate numerous battle interactions with monstrous mechanical entities.

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the innovative game development studio, Finish Line Games, has unveiled the first playable demo for their Retro Sci-Fi Action-Adventure RPG, Robots at Midnight! You can grab this free gem right now on Steam. Plus, if you happen to be in Cologne this week, swing by Gamescom and get a hands-on experience of the game as part of the Indie Arena booth (Hall 10, 2nd Level, Space F10).
Embark on a thrilling journey through the sprawling, futuristic landscape of the 1980s Cassette World in this Action-RPG, where every fight is as intense as the next, reminiscent of the Souls series. As I, a tenacious underdog named Zoe, navigate the dilapidated realm of Yob, I encounter satirical robots, towering mechanical beasts, and a captivating narrative hidden within its depths. My mission: to delve into the mysteries of this once-luxurious destination, now overrun by robots – some friendly, others hostile, and many that have begun to evolve, sparking questions about consciousness.
Initially unveiled at the 41st Golden Joystick Awards last November, Robots at Midnight was chosen for the exclusive PAX Rising 2024 Showcase at PAX East earlier this year. More recently, it has been showcased during this year’s Summer Games Fest and The MIX Showcase in Los Angeles.
Created by the same group behind successful indie titles like Skully, Maize, and Cel Damage HD, Robots at Midnight is a captivating cosmic fantasy. It offers strategic, skill-based battles, seamless transitions between climbing, dodging, and flipping movements, an exhilarating “Midnight Mode”, choices that balance risk and reward, and role-playing game (RPG) advancement linked to character development, all wrapped up in a thought-provoking narrative.
Daniel Posner, CEO and co-founder of Finish Line Games, shared that the team has been diligently working to develop a game that feels authentic, yet offers both ease of use and difficulty, which is a characteristic often associated with its genre. He noted that these showcases offer an excellent platform for promoting the game and gathering valuable feedback from the press and attendees. This feedback is crucial as they continue to refine the product. Posner expressed his enthusiasm for a broader audience to experience the demo and witness the fruits of their labor.
Starting today, I can’t contain my excitement because the playable demo of “Robots at Midnight” is up for grabs on Steam, absolutely free! This thrilling adventure is set to launch in Q4 exclusively on PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles, with more platforms joining the fun later on.
