Robert Pattinson rumored to be playing Hermes
As reported by the Italian magazine Chi, Robert Pattinson is rumored to take on the role of Hermes in The Odyssey. If these reports are accurate, this could potentially mark an unconventional choice for him among his career roles so far.
In Greek mythology, Hermes is characterized as a swift messenger and herald among the gods dwelling on Mount Olympus. This deity has the unique ability to traverse both the realm of gods and mortals effortlessly, and he’s frequently represented as a nimble figure with winged sandals.
Apart from being depicted as a god’s emissary, he is also known for his role as a spiritual navigator or guide, leading souls towards the hereafter.
Indeed, he shows up in the Odyssey (beware of potential spoilers), instructing Calypso to release Odysseus whom she had kept captive for years, in hopes that he would marry her. Furthermore, he provides Odysseus with a cautionary tale about Circe, another goddess who is bound to cross his path during his travels.
It’s quite thrilling, and it seems this supports the idea that most of the prominent actors are slated to portray renowned deities from Greek myths.
