It seems James Gunn felt that fans were becoming overly daring and assertive with their theories about The Brave and the Bold, particularly regarding Robert Pattinson potentially playing Batman in the larger DC Universe. The speculation grew stronger after Matt Reeves, director of The Batman, gave a vague response to the possibility during a January interview at the Golden Globes. However, according to Collider, Gunn made it clear at a recent press event that it is not the intention for Pattinson to become the new Batman. Co-CEO Peter Safran added, “We admire him, but we need to introduce a Batman into the DCU. It’s essential for The Brave and the Bold.” In other words, they plan to introduce a new Batman character in The Brave and the Bold.
The series titled “The Brave and The Bold,” featuring Batman alongside his son Damian Wayne, is currently undergoing vigorous development at DC, as confirmed by Safran. Gunn mentioned that he’s collaborating closely with the writer who hasn’t been disclosed yet for this film. Moreover, Gunn hinted that the new Batman may make an appearance in another DC Universe project prior to “The Brave and The Bold.” He added, “I wouldn’t exclude any possibilities,” suggesting that the actor for the role has not been chosen yet. This information was shared by Variety.
It’s possible that Pattinson prefers things this way, given the strain playing Batman can have on him. He’s excited about the upcoming “The Batman Part II,” even though Warner Bros. has delayed its release several times, most recently to October 1, 2027. DC assures us that production is still progressing. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves hasn’t submitted a full script yet, but what they’ve read so far is promising. The situation regarding the “The Batman” spin-off series featuring Colin Farrell is less clear. When asked about a potential second season for “The Penguin,” Safran replied, “We don’t know. There are many variables at play, particularly Colin himself and the heavy makeup required.
