Robert Downey Jr says Pedro Pascal’s success “reaffirms my faith in our industry”

Robert Downey Jr. is expressing his admiration for Pedro Pascal’s success in Avengers: Doomsday, stating that it serves as a reminder of the potential and vitality of our entertainment industry.

Over the years, I’ve been gradually making my mark in the world of acting. Born in Chile, I got my start with bit parts on some pretty massive TV series, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, NYPD Blue, Law & Order, The Good Wife, and Homeland.

However, everything took a dramatic turn when he secured the role of Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones. Subsequently, he starred in popular television shows such as Narcos, The Mandalorian, and The Last of Us. Additionally, he appeared in films like Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Wonder Woman 1984, and Gladiator II.

This summer, he stars as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, marking his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent conversation, Pascal shares that one of his fellow actors from Avengers: Doomsday has provided him with valuable encouragement.

Pedro Pascal calls Robert Downey Jr “immediately generous and inviting”

Speaking with Vanity Fair about the anticipation for the upcoming Fantastic Four film, Pascal shared: “I’m picking up a bit of excitement because it appears to embody our collective aim and what we wish to convey, which is pouring out all our emotions into this genre. Sometimes you wonder if audiences will be repulsed or moved by our sincerity.

Pascal is discussing his role as Richards/Mister Fantastic, which sparked some debate among comic book enthusiasts. The actor commented: “I’ve never experienced such dissatisfaction with my casting as I have now – ‘He’s too old, he doesn’t fit the part, he should shave.’

However, the previous Iron Man and upcoming Doctor Doom, Robert Downey Jr., offered support, as Pascal shared, “He’s incredibly welcoming and generous from the get-go, making one feel comfortable enough to be apprehensive, uncertain, or even a bit indifferent.

In response to the same magazine inquiring about Pedro’s construction achievements, Downey gave a warm compliment, expressing that “Pedro’s gradual rise to fame as a well-known figure riding a streak of incredible success serves to strengthen my belief in our profession.

On July 25, 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps premieres in cinemas. If Doctor Doom doesn’t appear in that movie, Pedro Pascal and Robert Downey Jr. will team up on the big screen for Avengers: End of Days, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
