Actor Rob McElhenney, known for “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” recently shared a significant setback from his acting journey: His role was removed from the 1997 crime thriller “The Devil’s Own,” which featured Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford.
McElhenney shared that his initial acting job in a movie was among the most embarrassing and distressing events of his life during an interview on ‘Hot Ones’. He had the opportunity to work alongside stars like Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, Julia Stiles, Rubén Blades – a fantastic lineup of talented actors.
In the nineties, an action film unfolds around a police officer named Ford, who unexpectedly shelters a young man, Pitt, at his home. However, it soon transpires that this guest is actually an elusive Irish Republican Army fugitive in hiding.
Or, more concisely:
An action movie from the ’90s centers on a police officer (Ford) who unwittingly hosts a young Irish Republican Army fugitive (Pitt), who has taken refuge with him.
Both options convey the original meaning and are written in easy-to-understand language.
The film is about to be released, but there’s no invitation for the premiere or the private screening for friends and family, which I found surprising,” McElhenney went on. “At that time, I was just starting out in my career – I must have been around 19 or so. I thought, ‘Oh well, it’ll be alright.’ For an entire year, I kept telling everyone about this movie; they didn’t believe me because I hadn’t worked on anything else before. When we finally saw the film, all my friends and family bought tickets – but guess what? I wasn’t in it at all! They completely edited me out of the movie without any warning. Not even a heads up, nothing. All the other actors were A-listers, while I was just a beginner on set. In fact, I wasn’t even a player; I was left on the editing room floor.
In the annals of 1998, I found myself gracing the silver screen for the first time as a featured actor, under the skillful direction of Steve Zaillian, in the compelling drama “A Civil Action.” Sharing the limelight with luminaries like John Travolta and William H. Macy, this cinematic journey proved to be an unforgettable experience for me.
