RKG Is The Let’s Play Channel To End All Let’s Play Channels

At the age of 17, I walked into my house after college one day and switched on YouTube to find something entertaining. There, on IGN’s channel, a fresh upload caught my eye – it was the start of a series called “Prepare To Try,” where Rory Powers attempted to finish Dark Souls before the release of Dark Souls 3.

Together with Daniel Krupa and Gav Murphy, they attracted a fanbase (or ‘Slugs’) who stood by them throughout this series, which included Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, Resident Evil, and numerous other series and spin-offs. Prepare To Try eventually became a recognized branch of IGN UK, but in 2019, they parted ways with IGN. From there, RKG Video was established, and the series continued under its new title, Retry.

Currently, I’m 27 years old, and the trailer for the concluding chapter of their Elden Ring trilogy stirred up a flood of memories. This is quite an emotional time for the whole fanbase.

Elden Ring Isn’t The End…

In simpler terms, Elden Ring Part Three isn’t the conclusion of Retry or RKG, but it seems like wrapping up the last decade, as we move forward into what’s next. Back then, my 17-year-old self would be busy blogging and eagerly waiting for each new Prepare To Try episode, filled with awe for the trio. Today, I find myself writing here, having established a career in video production, and still holding immense respect for Rory, Krupa, and Gav’s exceptional production quality and passion, even more so than before.

RKG primarily relies on contributions from their Patreon followers as their main source of funding, a decision they made after departing from IGN. This risky move proved beneficial almost immediately upon announcing their new channel.

On April 30th, a trailer for Retry: Elden Ring’s third installment was unveiled on RKG, accompanied by Johnny Cash’s song “Hurt”. The latter half of the trailer is particularly impactful, as it showcases scenes from Prepare To Try and contrasts them with footage from the characters Rory, Krupa, and Gav over the past six years since RKG’s debut.

Having been part of its journey from the very beginning, I’m finding it hard to imagine Elden Ring: Retry coming to an end, yet I’m brimming with anticipation for what the next decade might bring us.

There’s So Much To Appreciate About RKG

Originally producing the show for IGN provided them with a production platform, yet they were constrained by the available equipment. Despite this, their output surpassed most independent channels in terms of quality. However, it was their meticulous attention to detail that truly set them apart – an aspect that would become more apparent over time.

Currently, RKG’s expanding network of community backing and a specialized studio located in London provide them with ample resources to finance a significant portion of their production aspirations. Their ultimate aim is to deliver an exceptional Let’s Play series on YouTube, which has consistently expanded over the past few years.

For instance, “Elden Ring’s theme tune was made exclusively for this platform and played by a live orchestra during recording.

The RKG Video YouTube channel is truly outstanding, demonstrating a high level of care and consideration in its creation. It’s not just about financial backing; it’s about three dedicated individuals who understand what makes content exceptional. Their skills, fueled by the continuous encouragement of an equally enthusiastic audience, allow them to seize unique opportunities and produce truly special content.

I’m absolutely thrilled with them, and it’s an honor to have been involved with the Slug community from its inception. Here’s to many more years filled with mischief!

To the fools.
