As a lifelong aficionado of British television, I must confess that I am positively smitten with the news that “Rivals” is returning for a second season! Having devoured Jilly Cooper’s works since my formative years and being captivated by the allure of Rutshire’s residents, their escapades, and the enthralling drama they invariably find themselves embroiled in, this announcement has sent me into a paroxysm of delight.

Jilly Cooper fans have reason to rejoice: “Rivals” is returning for a second season.

Drawing inspiration from Cooper’s popular novel, this series follows the lives of Emily Atack, Aidan Turner, and David Tennant who are inhabitants of an imaginary English town named Rutshire. They frequently engage in arguments, display flirtatious behavior, and indulge in romantic encounters within their community.

The book was first published in 1988.

Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, with Cooper’s iconic hunk Rupert Campbell-Black (played by Alex Hassell) finally giving in to his feelings for his friend’s daughter Taggie (Bella Maclean), some 16 years his junior, and evil TV boss Tony Baddingham (Tennant) getting his comeuppance after violently beating his mistress and employee Cameron Cook (Nafessa Williams).

Previously, Tennant confided to EbMaster that he was “extremely grateful” for being involved in the series, as he accepted the role of Baddingham at his wife Georgia’s urging. He mentioned that occasionally, he finds himself in projects that exceed their initial size and spark broader societal discussions. In this case, it appears that “Rivals” has transcended such boundaries, generating widespread enthusiasm among viewers. People seem to be really enjoying the series.

The show, titled “Happy Prince’s Production,” is broadcasted and can be found on Hulu within the United States, while viewers in the U.K. can enjoy it on Disney+, and globally as well.

Cooper is thrilled beyond belief and eagerly anticipating the arrival of his favorite superhero, Rupert Campbell-Black, along with the other characters, in Season 2,” stated Cooper.

Disney+ Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) scriptwriter Lee Mason commented: “It’s been amazing observing the response to Dame Jilly Cooper’s ‘Rivals’ – this fall’s most popular series discussion. We’re delighted that fans of the novels and those discovering the Cooperverse for the first time have embraced the series. I can hardly wait to return to Rutshire and witness what captivating drama the Happy Prince team has planned for season two – more romance, deceit, and power pads await!

The executive producers for this project are Cooper, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, Alexander Lamb, Felicity Blunt, Elliot Hegarty, Laura Wade, and Jonny Richards. In simpler terms, these six individuals, along with someone named Cooper, have significant creative control and decision-making roles in the production of this project.
