As a long-time fan of both Riot Games and Netflix, I must say that the recent incident involving Arcane Season 2 has left me a bit perplexed. The series itself was a masterpiece, seamlessly blending the world of League of Legends with captivating storytelling and stunning animation. However, the controversy over an AI-created promotional poster for Arcane Season 2 has certainly added an unexpected twist to the narrative.

This coming weekend concludes the run of Arcane Season 2 in a spectacular finale. However, it appears there’s been tension between Riot Games and Netflix, stemming from a promotional poster for Arcane Season 2, which was produced using AI technology.

As an enthusiast of digital art, I stumbled upon an intriguing piece on platform X, shared by a user known as eggbertith. What immediately caught my attention was a subtle yet significant flaw in the image: the hand, an area where artificial intelligence often falls short in its creations.

i feel stupid but what is going on with jinx’s (vi’s??) hand??

After being taken down from Netflix, the AI-created poster for Arcane was indeed confirmed by its brand lead, Alex Shahmir. He also noted that this contravened Riot Games’ policy of abstaining from anything AI-related in Arcane as it would be seen as disrespectful to the talented artists who contributed to the show.

Thank you for pointing this out. We firmly believe that AI should not be used in any context related to the arcane, as it shows disregard for the talented artists involved in the production. It appears there was an oversight with this particular image, which has now been taken down. Once again, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

A recent Variety article suggests that Arcane is the most expensive animated series ever made, with Riot Games reportedly investing $250 million towards its creation and promotion.

It was additionally disclosed that the filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo, known for directing Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, were enlisted to create a live-action movie within the League of Legends universe. However, when the Russos and Riot Games encountered disagreements about creative aspects, they received a $5 million settlement upon leaving the project.
