As a seasoned gamer and long-time Tolkien enthusiast, I must say that my heart skipped a beat when I learned about the Rings of Power Season 2 finale revelation – the Stranger is none other than Gandalf! The anticipation leading up to this moment was palpable, with fans worldwide speculating about the character’s true identity.
The most significant revelation from the finale of The Rings of Power’s second season is that the enigmatic figure known as The Stranger turns out to be none other than Gandalf! While this bombshell has been dropped, there are still numerous unanswered questions regarding his character arc. We posed those queries to Daniel Weyman.
In the past, people who watched The Rings of Power recognized him as “the meteor man.” However, the series later provided him with a provisional title that he is now known by – The Stranger.
Through his close ties with the Harfoots and Tom Bombadil, as well as his penchant for quoting The Lord of the Rings (“he advised Nori to ‘follow her nose’), it became quite apparent that he had a certain affinity for this story.
I’m regretfully informing fans of Blue Wizard lore, it appears that The Stranger, as revealed in Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 8, is none other than Gandalf.
As a gamer, one aspect I’ve been eagerly anticipating is being able to share my thoughts on it, considering I’ve known about it for approximately a year and a half since we wrapped up filming the pivotal scene. So, that’s quite a lengthy wait! This was shared with me during an interview before the finale, as I chatted with TopMob.
In other words, when it comes to Gandalf’s background story, as depicted by J.R.R. Tolkien, we find ourselves exploring unknown territories since Gandalf doesn’t arrive in Middle-earth until the Second Age.
Initially, Weyman wasn’t aware that he was Gandalf when he was employed; he had his doubts about whether he could have been Sauron at some point instead. As the influence of the Dark Lord expands across the land, it’s uncertain how things will unfold for him – not even the stars can predict what lies ahead.
He mentioned that one characteristic of our series is that the Second Age extends over countless thousands of years, yet there isn’t a great deal of information available about it.
In the story, there are definite events we can confirm. However, there’s a significant amount of unknown or unclear details, which could be likened to empty spaces or hidden chambers.
It seems to me that the creators and producers have ventured into these caves, delving into new things. It’s worth mentioning that I am as clueless as a clam when it comes to future events. Whether for my character or any others, I am left guessing.
I’m fairly confident we’ll reach some major milestones, but as for what might happen next in the narrative, I’m afraid I have no idea.
As a gamer pondering over the intriguing cliffhanger from season 2, I can’t help but wonder: “Who on earth is this Dark Wizard that continues to elude us?” With Gandalf in the mix, it certainly feels like Saruman could be the one behind the veil, considering he casually referred to him as an “old friend” in the season finale.
Weyman admitted he doesn’t have an answer for that question either. It’s quite puzzling, and Ciarán carries such weight… Frankly, I can’t say otherwise,” Weyman stated.
During our filming sessions, there were numerous moments when I pondered, “Could this be the key?” However, upon reflection, these instances appear to be similar to the discoveries that viewers of the show are making independently.
