‘Rings of Power’ Star Robert Aramayo Set as Lead in Kirk Jones’ Tourette’s Biopic ‘I Swear’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a film enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the magical worlds of cinema, I can confidently say that the upcoming biopic “I Swear” is one to watch out for. The fact that Robert Aramayo, who enchanted us all as Elrond in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” has taken on the role of Tourette’s Syndrome campaigner John Davidson, promises a performance that will undoubtedly leave us spellbound.

Actor Robert Aramayo, known for his role in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” will take on the part of a prominent figure advocating for Tourette’s Syndrome in an upcoming film called “I Swear.”

Under the direction of Kirk Jones, known for “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” and making a comeback with his first film project in eight years, the movie titled “I Swear” unfolds around John Davidson, an activist fighting for Tourette’s Syndrome. Recently, filming has concluded in Scotland.

“The story ‘I Swear’ traces Davidson’s life with Tourette’s Syndrome during his turbulent teenage years and young adulthood, as he received the diagnosis at 15 in the 1980s UK – a period when the disorder was largely unknown and misconstrued.”

“Davidson is labeled as crazy by his peers, but he struggles to lead a typical life despite an unusual condition that most people rarely encounter, according to the summary.”

In the movie, Aramayo is joined by Shirley Henderson (known for “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy”), Maxine Peake (“Funny Cow”), and Peter Mullan (“War Horse”). Notably, the cast also includes individuals who have Tourette’s syndrome. Throughout the production process, the team collaborated closely with the Tourette’s community to ensure authenticity in the project.

I’m delighted to be part of the team that’s bringing this film to life, collaborating alongside Georgia Bayliff and Piers Tempest. Our production companies, One Story High and Tempo Productions, are making it happen. Bankside Films is handling international sales, with a strategic plan to unveil the film to potential buyers at TIFF this fall.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled and humbled to have had the opportunity to bring John Davidson MBE’s story to the big screen. John bravely navigated life with Tourette’s during a time when it was often misunderstood, and he’s dedicated his life to ensuring future generations diagnosed don’t face the same challenges. Robert Aramayo immersed himself completely in this role, investing countless hours with John here in Galashiels. Our team was resolute in our goal to do justice to John’s story, striving to create a film that captured the humor, emotion, and drama of living with Tourette’s. This extraordinary project has been an immense privilege for every crew member, actor, and production staff involved.

Speaking as a co-executive producer alongside Cindy Jones, Davidson expressed his profound amazement about the project: “It’s been simply astounding working on this. The cast and team have shown nothing but dedication and respect for my situation. Interacting with Kirk and Rob has been truly enriching, though at times it’s stirred up some strong emotions. This film is based on my life with Tourette’s Syndrome, and I can only hope that it fosters greater comprehension and acceptance among those affected, enabling them to chase their dreams.”
