A new thriller on Netflix, Firebreak, has quickly become the most popular movie on the platform. It’s already surpassed Ridley Scott’s Prometheus in the streamer’s Top 10 list, despite only being released three days ago. This strong start suggests Firebreak will be a hit with viewers.
Netflix’s Firebreak is dominating on streaming
As of February 23, 2026, the Spanish thriller is the #1 movie on Netflix worldwide.
Firebreak has now surpassed Ridley Scott’s Prometheus as the most popular movie on the platform, moving Prometheus down to second place, according to FlixPatrol.
The film is currently performing better than other popular movies in the Top 10, including The Addams Family 2 at number 3, The Addams Family at number 4, The Orphans at number 5, The Swedish Connection at number 6, Rumble at number 7, The Saint at number 8, The World Will Tremble at number 9, and Famous Last Words: Eric Dane at number 10.
Meanwhile, in the United States, the film is currently the #10 film on Netflix.
I just finished watching Firebreak, and it’s a really compelling story! It centers around Mara and her sweet 8-year-old daughter, Lide. After a heartbreaking loss – Lide’s dad passes away – Mara decides to take her on one last trip to their family’s summer house. They’re getting it ready to sell, and Mara brings along her brother-in-law, Luis, his wife Elena, and their son Arias, too. It’s a tough situation, and I’m already hooked!
Mara and Lide disagree about selling the house. Mara wants to sell it so they can both move forward, but Lide wants to keep it as a way to remember her father.
Shortly after settling in, a wildfire broke out, and the family had to leave immediately. During the evacuation, Mara discovered that Lide was missing. Ignoring the official orders, she and her family began searching for Lide, and quickly uncovered a disturbing secret surrounding her disappearance.
Firebreak was directed by David Victori, who is also known for his work on the TV series Sky Rojo and the film Cross the Line. The screenplay was written by Javier Echánez, Asier Guerricaechebarría, and Jon Iriarte.
The movie stars Belén Cuesta, Joaquín Furriel, Diana Gómez, along with Enric Auquer, Bernabé Fernández, Candela Martínez, Mika Arias, Elena Silva, and Mònica Giménez.
