Ridley Scott Offered Blunt Advice To Alien: Romulus Star

As a lifelong fan of the Alien franchise, I am beyond excited for Ridley Scott’s latest addition to this terrifying universe with Alien: Romulus. The iconic director’s involvement in the project is a testament to the enduring legacy of the xenomorphs and their ability to elicit fear and wonder through the intersection of horror and science fiction.

Over the past 45 years, the xenomorphs in the Alien series have masterfully combined horror and science fiction elements. No one is better suited to create a chilling space experience than Ridley Scott, the director of Alien, Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant, as well as a producer on Alien: Romulus. When one of Romulus’ stars, David Jonsson, sought Scott’s guidance for the upcoming film, the director’s response was amusingly straightforward.

During an interview with Rolling Stone UK, Jonsson recounted Scott saying, “Come on, don’t be disappointing!” or “Don’t be subpar,” instead.

In the movie, Jonsson portrays the role of Andy, a member of a team headed by Cailee Spaeny’s character, Rain Carradine. Their mission is to gather resources from an abandoned ship. However, instead of finding valuable materials, they encounter swarms of facehuggers and a few xenomorphs. The initial images from the film depict Rain as the toughest member of the group, and she is seen shielding Andy in the image below.

In his interview, Jonsson acknowledged the crucial support he received from director Fede Álvarez and 20th Century Studios, enabling him to secure the lead part in the movie.

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel humbled when I reflect on the faith the studio and Fede placed in me. They believed in my abilities to bring their vision to life, and it was an indispensable source of motivation for me during the development process.

In addition to the main cast, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu take on significant roles in the film. Following contemporary movie trends, Alien: Romulus is expected to offer a disturbingly large popcorn container when it premieres on August 16.
