Rick And Morty-Esque Sci-Fi Shooter High On Life 2 Announced With New Trailer

The offbeat, sci-fi first-person shooter titled “High on Life” is set to receive a sequel, promising an expansion of its quirky alien weapons and potentially disastrous consequences for humanity. Indie developer Squanch Games unveiled “High on Life 2” during the Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025, with a fresh trailer to boot.

Check out the trailer below.

As suggested by the trailer, High on Life 2 is expected to launch during Winter 2025. This upcoming game can be played on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 platforms, with it being accessible via Xbox Game Pass from its release date.

Initially, the character in the game High on Life found himself amidst an alien takeover. It was later discovered that humans serve as a crucial component in the aliens’ preferred recreational substances across the universe. Accompanied by chatty weaponry, you assume the role of a bounty hunter and venture out to navigate your chaotic, alien-infested existence, with both triumphs and setbacks along the way.

Originally developed by Justin Roiland, who is known for creating the sci-fi animated comedy show Rick and Morty and founding Squanch Games, High on Life shares a similar over-the-top humor (at times even with exaggerated gore). If you appreciate one, chances are you’ll enjoy the other. Additionally, Roiland provided his voice for the game as well.

It’s uncertain at this point what role Justin Roiland might play in High on Life 2, given his departure from the studio in 2023 following a lawsuit by a former employee who accused Squanch Games of sexual harassment and wrongful termination. The studio eventually settled, and they later announced that Roiland had resigned.
